JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our Oncology Clinic is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Medical Assistant to join our patient-centered team. You will interact with patients and families who may be navigating some of the most challenging moments of their lives. We are looking for someone who combines strong clinical skills with genuine empathy, kindness, and a commitment to delivering exceptional care.

As a Medical Assistant in Oncology, you will play a vital role in supporting providers, nurses, and patients throughout their treatment journey. The ideal candidate understands the importance of listening, providing emotional support, and helping create a welcoming and reassuring environment for every patient interaction.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard office technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical histories, and medication updates.
  • Assist providers with clinical care and patient flow.
  • Document accurately within the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Respond to patient questions and concerns with professionalism, sensitivity, and compassion.
  • Support patients and families through treatment visits, recognizing the emotional and physical challenges associated with cancer care.
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, and other care team members to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold all regulatory and safety standards.

EXPERIENCE:

Up to one year experience in medical setting with certification as a Medical Assistant or equivalent training and/or experience preferred

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Good organizational skills

BLS certification

Ability to work under pressure and be able to adapt to medical situations

Ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours/day, bend, stoop, twist, assist patients in turning, assist patient in arising from exam table, push wheelchair patients, and assist patient in arising from and returning to wheelchair.

This position is Wednesdays only

This is a bargaining union position.
