Job Summary
The Player Initiative Programs Coordinator supports the Communications Department by coordinating player-focused initiatives, related programs, and associated media and publicity efforts. The role also provides administrative support for Hockey Communications, helping manage materials, schedules, and cross-department coordination tied to player engagement opportunities.
This position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who can manage confidential information, coordinate multiple priorities, and operate effectively in a fast-paced professional sports environment.
Length: One-Year Contract (beginning Oct. 1, 2026 through Sept. 30, 2027)
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Support the planning, coordination, and execution of player-focused communications initiatives, including community appearances, special events, league programs, feature opportunities, and internal storytelling projects.
- Prepare background materials, talking points, media briefs, recap notes, and departmental documents related to player initiatives and communications planning.
- Coordinate logistics, schedules, and materials for player media opportunities, interview requests, public appearances, and publicity-related initiatives in collaboration with hockey operations, player services, marketing, community relations, and digital/social teams.
- Provide executive support to the Vice President of Communications, including calendar management, meeting coordination, travel logistics, expense tracking, and scheduling support.
- Serve as a liaison across internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure deadlines, approvals, appearances, and follow-up items are managed efficiently and professionally.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of player requests, initiative timelines, contact lists, department trackers, and recurring communications workflows.
- Draft and edit internal memoranda, media advisories, briefing documents, event outlines, and other player-related communications materials.
- Provide event, and game-day support as needed, including occasional evening, weekend, and holiday coverage based on the hockey calendar.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and maintain a high standard of professionalism when working with executives, players, coaches, media, agents, and league contacts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, sports management, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Previous experience in sports communications, media relations, public relations, team operations, or executive support preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail, accuracy, and professional tone.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively with confidential information.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with players, executives, internal staff, media, and external partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with scheduling, document preparation, tracking systems, and administrative processes.
- Knowledge of hockey operations, the NHL media environment, and the pace of a professional sports season is preferred.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and select holidays, as required.
Reporting Structure and Schedule
This position reports directly to the Vice President, Hockey Communications and collaborates regularly with all internal communications, hockey operations, digital, marketing and charities and community relations. The role is part-time and requires schedule flexibility based on team events, player appearances, media opportunities, and the NHL season calendar.
