Apheresis Experience Required
Make a meaningful impact in acute care nephrology.
DaVita Hospital Services is seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our specialized Acute Apheresis team. As a Hospital Apheresis RN, you will deliver critical, life-sustaining therapeutic apheresis procedures to adult patients within our contracted hospital partner facility.
In this autonomous, high-impact clinical role, you will operate state-of-the-art apheresis technology—specifically the Spectra Optia® Apheresis System—delivering specialized treatments directly at the hospital bedside and intensive care units. You will partner closely with hospital physicians, hematologists, transfusion medicine specialists, and hospital nursing teams to provide exceptional, compassionate patient care.
What You’ll Do:
- Deliver inpatient dialysis therapies, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, CRRT, and apheresis
- Collaborate with hospital teams and DaVita clinical staff
- Monitor patients, adjust treatment, and ensure quality outcomes
- Support and oversee patient care with the help of PCTs
- Adapt quickly in a dynamic hospital environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized acute apheresis treatments in licensed hospital partner facilities, including:
- o Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE)
- o Red Blood Cell Exchange (RBCX / Erythrocytapheresis)
- o White Blood Cell Collection (Leukapheresis / WBC Depletion & Collection)
- ·Operate, prime, program, troubleshoot, and maintain the Spectra Optia® Apheresis System in strict adherence to manufacturer guidelines, DaVita Hospital Services policies and procedures (eP&P), and hospital protocols.
- Perform comprehensive clinical assessments prior to, during, and following apheresis treatments, including evaluating vital signs, neurological status, fluid balance, and laboratory parameters (e.g., CBC, electrolytes, ionized calcium, coagulation profiles).
- Manage specialized vascular access (central venous catheters, apheresis ports, peripheral IV access) and monitor for access patency and flow adequacy.
- Monitor patients closely for procedural tolerance and acute complications, implementing prompt interventions for citrate anticoagulation effects (including IV/oral calcium replacement protocols), hypovolemia, transfusion reactions, or vasovagal events.
- Provide thorough pre- and post-treatment handoff communication with hospital primary nurses, attending physicians, and blood bank / transfusion services.
- Accurately document all treatment parameters, cellular collection metrics, medication administration, and patient assessments within the electronic medical record (EMR) and DaVita Hospital Services documentation systems.
- Participate in a flexible acute schedule and shared on-call rotation (including evenings, weekends, and holidays) to support emergent inpatient apheresis consultations and urgent hospital admissions.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection prevention standards, bloodborne pathogen safety, sterile technique, and regulatory compliance across all hospital settings.

- Work in a variety of hospital units and rotate between facilities as needed
- Schedule includes regular and on-call shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Daily schedules may change based on patient needs
Requirements:
- Current RN license in the state of practice
- Apheresis Nurse Certification (QIA / HP) or Certified Hemapheresis Practitioner (ASCP) is a plus.
- ADN required; BSN preferred
- ICU, CCU, ER, or Med/Surg experience helpful but not required
- CNN/CDN certification (preferred)
- Must pass a color vision test (accommodations available)
- Prior hands-on experience with therapeutic apheresis procedures and the Spectra Optia® Apheresis System is preferred; extensive, comprehensive specialized training is provided for experienced acute nurses.
