About the job
The Utah State Tax Commission is seeking a GIS Analyst to join our team. In this role, you are not just building maps—you are safeguarding the accuracy of Utah’s tax landscape. As our state grows and boundaries shift, the Tax Commission relies on high-quality spatial data to ensure correct tax distribution. You will be at the forefront of resolving complex boundary discrepancies, validating annexation records, and ensuring our tax databases reflect real-world realities. Key Responsibilities Boundary Stewardship Annexation Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for verifying jurisdictional boundaries. Investigate and resolve discrepancies between municipal annexation records and digital tax district layers, ensuring that location codes and tax rates are accurately applied. Spatial Data Governance: Manage, clean, and maintain the integrity of large-scale spatial databases. Ensure metadata is standardized and records are audit-ready. Tax District Analysis: Perform complex overlay analysis to define and update taxing district boundaries, directly impacting revenue distribution and taxpayer compliance. Workflow Automation: Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine geoprocessing tasks, reducing manual errors and improving the turnaround time for data requests. Collaboration: Act as a bridge between the Tax Commission, local government entities (cities/counties), and internal audit teams. Communicate spatial findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders to resolve tax rate disputes and boundary conflicts.
