About the job
Intuit builds the platform accounting firms run their practices on, from solo practitioners to the largest firms in the world, serving millions of small business clients. At that scale, the hardest design problems aren't on any single screen. They live in the structure underneath: who the user is, what they can see and do, which clients and companies they're connected to, and how the same objects show up consistently across every surface and screen.
Across Intuit Accountant Suite, QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Live, and ProPartner, firm leaders, staff, client users, and Intuit's experts all work on shared things: transactions, invoices, tasks, templates, documents, and requests. As we become AI-native, that structure matters even more. When AI acts on a user's behalf, the rules for identity, access, and permissions become the rules for what AI can see and do.
We're looking for a Principal Product Designer with deep strength in systems design for large-scale enterprise products to build the map: the shared model of objects, relationships, and rules that connects our surfaces and teams. You'll turn that model into experiences that feel simple for a two-person firm and hold up for the largest firms we serve.
You'll be the connective tissue across teams: a design facilitator and force multiplier who brings designers, PMs, and engineers into the same model and keeps it coherent as we ship.
Responsibilities
Experience architecture and the object model
-
Define and own the cross-product object model: the core objects, their attributes, and the relationships between them
-
Map how those objects appear, behave, and connect across surfaces and teams, and find where they've fragmented
-
Apply object-oriented UX methods or similar to turn the model into navigation, views, and interaction patterns teams can reuse
-
Establish the model as a shared artifact that Product, Engineering, and Design build against, and keep it current as the platform evolves
Identity, permissions, and access at scale
-
Evolve the identity, roles, permissions, and access experience for multi-user firms, from a solo practitioner to the largest firms with complex teams and hierarchies
-
Make powerful access controls understandable: who can see which clients, who can act on what, and why
-
Design multi-user collaboration across firm staff, client users, and Intuit experts, including delegation, handoffs, and audit visibility
-
Extend the same rules to AI, so agents acting on a user's behalf respect identity and permissions, and users can see and trust what AI has access to
Partner with engineering on the foundations
-
Partner closely with engineering and architecture on data models, entitlements, and platform services, so the experience model and the system model reinforce each other
-
Push the boundaries of what's possible while using technical constraints to shape better solutions
-
Surface tradeoffs, risks, and long-term implications of structural decisions before they become problems
Facilitate and multiply
-
Act as a design facilitator: bring designers, PMs, and engineers across teams into the same model, build shared ownership, and keep alignment moving without formal authority
-
Identify and resolve experience fragmentation and design debt across organizational boundaries
-
Ensure patterns and design system components carry the model consistently, including through AI-assisted design and build tools
-
Influence decisions at the Director and VP level through clarity of thought and strength of craft
Craft leadership and mentorship
-
Set the standard for systems thinking and interaction depth in complex enterprise workflows
-
Mentor senior and staff designers in experience architecture, object modeling, and platform thinking
-
Use AI tools to compress the path from model to testable prototype, and help define what great systems design looks like in an AI-native world
Qualifications
-
Deep expertise in systems design and experience architecture, including object-oriented UX, information architecture, and domain modeling
-
A track record designing identity, roles, permissions, and access for multi-user products at scale, ideally for large organizations with complex hierarchies
-
Demonstrated success shaping platform-level or ecosystem-level design strategy across multiple teams and surfaces
-
Comfort at the intersection of design, product, and engineering: able to engage credibly on data models and entitlements while keeping your depth in product judgment and craft
-
Strong facilitation instincts: able to bring people into a problem, build alignment, and create forward motion without formal authority
-
Hands-on fluency with AI as a design material, and with AI-powered design and prototyping tools such as Claude, Cursor, or similar
-
Excellent executive communication: able to make complex structural concepts clear through frameworks, maps, and visual storytelling
-
Demonstrated mentorship of senior designers, with judgment about when to unblock directly and when to build capability
-
A portfolio showing systems-level work, including models, maps, and frameworks, not just screens, and how that work shaped what shipped
-
Experience with accounting, fintech, or other high-trust B2B domains is a plus
