About the job

Position Summary

The Corporate Investigator supports the Compliance Department’s fraud-risk management program by conducting proactive, data-driven reviews of financial transactions, operational records, and other company data to identify potential indicators of fraud, waste, abuse, misconduct, or control breakdowns.

The primary focus of this role is designing and performing anti-fraud analytics projects, identifying anomalous activity and red flags, and communicating actionable results for further review. The role also builds and validates analytics and AI-enabled monitoring tools, including bespoke AI agents, and provides analytical and case-support assistance to fraud investigations, including evidence review, data collection, interviewing support, report writing, evidence documentation, and recommendations to strengthen anti-fraud controls.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Anti-Fraud Data Analytics

  • Develop, perform, and document data analytics projects designed to identify potential fraudulent activity, control weaknesses, and emerging fraud risks.
  • Analyze large and complex datasets from financial, procurement, payroll, expense, vendor, operational, and other relevant company systems.
  • Review transactions and activity for fraud indicators, including duplicate or unusual payments, split transactions, unusual vendor activity, conflicts of interest, deviations from expected patterns, and policy violations.
  • Use trend analysis, exception reporting, data mining, visualization, and other analytical techniques to identify anomalies, relationships, and potential schemes requiring review.
  • Create and maintain repeatable queries, reports, dashboards, and monitoring routines that support proactive fraud detection.
  • Assess the nature, scope, and potential financial exposure associated with identified issues, and promptly escalate significant concerns to management.
  • Partner with Internal Audit, Accounting, Finance, Procurement, Information Technology, Human Resources, Legal, Security, and operational leaders to obtain timely access to relevant data sources, validate results and data quality, and improve monitoring capabilities.
  • Recommend enhancements to preventive and detective controls, business processes, data quality, and fraud-monitoring practices based on analytical findings, root cause analyses, and lessons learned.

Investigative Support

  • Provide analytical support to fraud investigations involving potential employee misconduct, misuse of company assets, procurement irregularities, expense fraud, financial-reporting concerns, conflicts of interest, or other alleged violations.
  • Collect, organize, preserve, and analyze relevant electronic records, transaction data, supporting documentation, and other evidence.
  • Prepare data summaries, timelines, transaction analyses, charts, and other work products that support investigative planning and findings.
  • Assist investigators with research, document collection, case documentation, interviewing, follow-up analysis, and written investigative reports.
  • Maintain confidentiality, objectivity, sound judgment, and appropriate handling of sensitive information throughout all assignments.
  • Support fraud risk assessments, awareness efforts, and periodic reporting of investigative and analytics trends and metrics to support CECO reporting to executive leadership, the Enterprise Risk Management Committee, and the Audit Committee.
  • Design, develop, test, and document AI-enabled tools, including bespoke AI agents, to proactively identify potential fraud, waste, and abuse, with human review, performance measurement (e.g., accuracy, precision, recall), and controls ensuring use only for intended purposes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, Business, Criminal Justice, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 2–4 years of experience (including internships, co-ops, or substantial academic projects) in fraud analytics, financial investigations, internal audit, compliance, forensic accounting, data analysis, or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in transportation, logistics, rail, industrial operations, or another large, complex, asset-intensive organization.
  • Experience with procurement, accounts payable, payroll, expense, vendor, revenue, or operational data.
  • Legal education or experience (e.g. JD, MLS, attorney or paralegal work) supporting investigations, enforcement, or compliance matters is a plus.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), CPA, or other relevant professional certification.
  • Experience supporting internal investigations, forensic reviews, compliance inquiries, and interview techniques.
  • Coursework or experience in machine learning, large language model or AI agent development, or AI governance (e.g., NIST AI Risk Management Framework).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience reviewing financial transactions and analyzing large datasets to identify anomalies, exceptions, trends, and potential misconduct.
  • Proficiency with Excel and experience using data-analysis or visualization tools such as SQL, Power BI, Tableau, ACL/HighBond, IDEA, Python, DBeaver, or similar platforms, preferably with programming or tool development experience.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, financial processes, and common fraud schemes and red flags.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses clearly through written reports, charts, presentations, and discussions with varied stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking
  • Fraud detection and financial transaction analysis
