Overview

The Membership Platform team builds and supports the services that power REI membership experiences across digital and retail channels. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and support scalable, secure, and reliable platform services that enable membership, loyalty, customer engagement, and future digital experiences. You will partner closely with Product, Architecture, UX, and Engineering teams to deliver business value while advancing platform modernization.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain cloud-native services and integrations supporting the Membership Platform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate business and technical requirements into scalable, secure, and maintainable solution designs.
  • Lead delivery of complex technical solutions spanning multiple systems and teams.
  • Improve platform reliability, scalability, security, observability, and operational practices.
  • Mentor and support engineers through design reviews, code reviews, pairing, technical coaching, and knowledge sharing.
  • Partner with internal teams to deliver seamless data, event-driven, and service integrations across the broader technology ecosystem.
  • Participate in Agile planning, delivery, and operational support activities, including on-call incident response.
  • Evaluate, develop, and support AI-enabled capabilities that enhance member experiences, improve operational efficiency, and deliver business value while adhering to security, privacy, and responsible AI standards.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressively complex software engineering experience.
  • Software Development: Experience designing, developing, and supporting APIs, integrations, event-driven systems, and distributed applications using technologies relevant to the team’s ecosystem, such as Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and cloud-native platforms.
  • Cloud & Operations: Experience building, deploying, monitoring, and supporting applications in AWS or similar cloud environments, including continuous integration, continuous delivery, and production support.
  • Architecture & Design: Understanding of API design, integration patterns, distributed and event-driven systems, scalability, resiliency, performance optimization, and security principles.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively across Product, UX, Security, Architecture, and Engineering teams.
  • Modern Engineering Practices: Experience using modern software engineering tools and practices, including AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Devin, or similar technologies, automated testing, code reviews, and continuous improvement of engineering quality and delivery outcomes.
