We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).
The Schwab Technology Services (STS) Research & Development team explores emerging technologies and evaluates how they can create value across Schwab. We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer who combines strong technical depth with curiosity, creativity, and a passion for solving complex problems.
This role focuses on designing, building, and evaluating innovative technology solutions across areas such as Generative AI, intelligent automation, cloud-native platforms, developer productivity, data-driven applications, and emerging enterprise technologies. The engineer will work closely with architects, product teams, infrastructure partners, and business stakeholders to transform ideas into working prototypes and production-ready solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Design, develop, and maintain software solutions using modern engineering practices.

Collaborate with architects and senior technical leaders to define technical approaches and implementation strategies.
-
Partner with business and technology stakeholders to understand problems and deliver practical solutions.
-
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to engineering best practices.
What you have
Required Qualifications:
-
8+ years of software engineering experience.
-
Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous technical concepts from initial investigation through prototype or pilot delivery.
-
Working knowledge of modern AI technologies and practices, such as large language models, agentic systems, model evaluation, AI safety, or AI observability.
-
Experience applying statistical, machine learning, or data science techniques to validate hypotheses, evaluate technologies, and generate actionable insights.
-
Experience with two or more modern programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, C#, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
-
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience working across multiple technology domains, including software engineering, cloud platforms, data platforms, APIs, infrastructure, security, or distributed systems.
-
Experience working in financial services or other highly regulated industries.
-
Experience evaluating commercial technology vendors and platforms.
-
Enjoys technology ‘storytelling’ to help explain complex topics.
In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
