About the job
Shape the future of enterprise resilience at one of the world's most influential financial institutions.
As a Lead Site Reliability Engineer at JPMorganChase within Infrastructure Platforms, you bring deep technical expertise and a leadership mindset to one of the firm's most critical reliability domains. You will drive the design, automation, and continuous improvement of scalable backup, recovery, and data-protection services that safeguard the firm's most sensitive assets. In this role, you will influence senior stakeholders, mentor engineers across the team, and translate complex regulatory and security requirements into engineered, production-ready solutions. Your work directly strengthens the firm's operational resilience and positions the team at the forefront of cloud-native infrastructure engineering.
Job responsibilities
- Build and operate distributed systems, platform services, APIs, automation frameworks, and cloud-native applications that underpin enterprise-scale backup and recovery capabilities
- Embed site reliability engineering principles through reliability metrics, observability, incident learning, operational readiness reviews, and continuous improvement cycles
- Lead architecture and engineering for scalable backup, recovery, immutable-data protection, and recovery-assurance services across hybrid and cloud environments
- Drive automation-first, API-led, and self-service capabilities that reduce operational toil and measurably improve customer and stakeholder outcomes
- Build cloud-native solutions using AWS services, infrastructure as code, continuous integration and delivery pipelines, and modern software-engineering practices
- Design preventive and detective security controls, policy guardrails, automated validation, and audit-ready evidence to meet regulatory and compliance requirements
- Apply enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to accelerate infrastructure analysis and design documentation, validating outputs and handling operational data in accordance with sensitivity and security requirements
- Deliver telemetry, reporting, and operational intelligence that provide real-time visibility into backup health, compliance posture, and recovery readiness
- Mentor engineers, influence senior stakeholders, and coordinate cross-team delivery with clear ownership and explicit dependency management
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Formal training or certification on site reliability engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience
- Demonstrated experience building distributed systems, platform services, APIs, automation frameworks, and cloud-native applications
- Expertise in site reliability engineering practices, monitoring, telemetry, incident management, and production operational readiness, including hands-on experience with observability and monitoring platforms such as Dynatrace and Grafana
- Deep knowledge of one or more infrastructure engineering domains including networking, storage engineering, deployment practices, integration, automation, scaling, resilience, or performance assessments
- Strong knowledge of enterprise data protection, backup and recovery, cyber resilience, immutable storage, retention policies, and recovery testing
- Advanced AWS experience spanning backup services, identity and access management, security controls, observability, and infrastructure automation
- Proficiency in Python and at least one additional language such as Java, Go, or C#
- Demonstrated experience using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities to support infrastructure engineering workflows, with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity
- Ability to review and validate AI-assisted recommendations before implementation, escalating when uncertain and ensuring outcomes align to resiliency, security, and auditability expectations
- Ability to lead complex, cross-organizational initiatives and translate security, control, and regulatory requirements into engineered solutions
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience with enterprise backup platforms such as Cohesity or Commvault, and cloud-native backup services such as AWS Backup
- Familiarity with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or OpenShift in a production environment
- Exposure to database platforms and cyber-recovery solutions within a regulated financial-services environment
- Experience with operational analytics and data-driven approaches to infrastructure health and compliance reporting
