Details

The Department of Operations and Information Systems (OIS) in the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, beginning July 1, 2027. Candidates should have an outstanding record of research accomplishment and offer evidence of continued productivity with potential for scholarly impact. We welcome candidates from all OIS-related research areas. We particularly encourage applications from scholars whose research focuses on AI, although exceptionally accomplished scholars in other areas will also receive full consideration. Relevant AI research may include advancing state-of-the-art AI models or methods, including large language models, vision-language models, world models, and related systems; incorporating AI into business processes and workflows; or rigorously studying how AI affects organizational operations, firms, workers, markets, and society. AI should form a substantive part of the candidate’s research agenda rather than solely as a tool for research design, analysis, or writing. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Business, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics/Econometrics, Computer Science, or another relevant discipline by the appointment start date. Successful candidates will be expected to produce high-quality research and teach effectively in the area of Operations, Supply Chains, and Information Systems. Candidates publishing in the top INFORMS journals are encouraged to apply. We will also consider candidates who publish in the best outlets in affiliated fields but have demonstrated relevance to business research.

Interested individuals should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research and teaching statements, a sample of research papers, and contact information for three recommendation letter writers (letters will be only requested upon selection for a later stage interview). Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For full consideration we encourage you to apply by October 31, 2026.

The department welcomes candidates from all backgrounds; and makes every attempt to support their academic, professional, and personal success while they are here. This institution offers benefits to spouses. This institution offers benefits to same-sex and to different sex domestic partners.

About the School: The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah which is the fastest-growing tech state in the U.S. and home to the “Silicon Slopes” agglomeration of technology companies, including significant operations for Adobe, eBay, Intel, Micron, DOMO, Goldman Sachs, and Qualtrics. The University is within a day’s drive of a dozen national parks. Nine ski and snowboard resorts are nestled in the mountains above Salt Lake City, which hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 2002 and has been selected to host the Olympic Games again in 2034. The American Economic Development Institute named Utah the number one pro-business state in the country, the first state west of the Mississippi River to earn this recognition, and noted the state’s leadership in economic development, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The University of Utah is a member of the Association of American Universities, a prestigious, invitation-only group of 71 leading research institutions marked by excellence in academic expertise and research impact, student success, and the ability to secure resources in support of their core missions.
