About the job
We’re hiring 10 Desktop Engineers for a 12-month build-and-deployment project with a leading global investment management firm. Help equip the people and technology that power its work every day.
Locations: Baltimore, MD (Harbor Point) and Owings Mills, MD (Campus)
Work arrangement: Primarily onsite; occasional travel between Maryland locations is required
About the role
- We’re seeking hands-on technicians to prepare, configure, image, quality-check, and deploy end-user devices across the organization. You’ll help ensure laptops, desktops, and virtual endpoints are secure, compliant, and ready for use before they reach employees.
- This fast-paced role supports new-hire onboarding, hardware refreshes, emergency replacements, and larger technology rollouts. You’ll manage deployment work in ServiceNow, keep asset records current, communicate with employees and support teams, and troubleshoot issues that could affect device readiness or delivery timelines.
- This position focuses on device preparation and deployment—not ongoing desk-side break/fix support. Training on build standards, deployment procedures, and documentation requirements will be provided.
What you’ll do
- Image, configure, reimage, and prepare Windows 11 laptops, desktops, and virtual machines according to established standards.
- Perform detailed quality checks, including validating Microsoft 365 applications, drivers, network connectivity, BitLocker, Zscaler, OneDrive, security agents, and overall device readiness.
- Prepare and deploy devices for new hires, hardware refreshes, emergency replacements, and large-scale rollout initiatives.
- Manage assigned device-configuration tasks and maintain accurate asset, status, ownership, and work-note records in ServiceNow.
- Install standard and specialized software, confirm employee requirements, and support virtual desktop and endpoint initiatives.
- Troubleshoot failed builds, software installations, certificates, remote access, virtual endpoints, and hardware-related configuration issues.
- Coordinate device handoffs and issue resolution with Asset Management, Desktop Support, workstation engineering, remote build technicians, and onsite support teams.
- Communicate deployment status, emerging problems, and potential schedule impacts promptly.
- Track inventory and help keep build and deployment processes organized and moving forward.
What you’ll bring
- Hands-on experience installing, imaging, configuring, validating, or troubleshooting Windows 11 devices.
- Familiarity with enterprise endpoint deployment or management tools such as Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, SCCM, or Company Portal.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, OneDrive, BitLocker, Zscaler, device drivers, wired and wireless connectivity, and endpoint security agents.
- The ability to recognize build failures, perform thorough quality checks, and clearly document work.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to balance multiple assignments and deadlines.
- A customer-focused, collaborative approach to coordinating with employees and technical teams.
- Reliable transportation for occasional travel between Baltimore and Owings Mills locations.
- Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience using ServiceNow.
- Experience with Excel or participation in large-scale device rollout projects.
- Familiarity with virtual desktop environments, Windows 365, or Windows upgrade initiatives.
