****Job Description
**At L3Harris, our teams develop technologies that protect our nation and advance global security. At our Northampton site, you will join a close-knit engineering community where hands-on problem solving, quality, safety, and technical growth are central to how we work.
Engineers work alongside manufacturing, integration, and test teams, providing the opportunity to see hardware progress from concept through Circuit Card Assembly development, system-level verification, and production support. The site offers structured onboarding, mentoring, cross-training, career development, an onsite fitness center and cafe, and generous paid time off that supports a sustainable work-life balance.
L3Harris is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to design, develop, integrate, test, and sustain high-reliability electronics for maritime applications. This onsite role combines hands-on Circuit Card Assembly design with cross-functional execution in a production environment.**
Essential Functions
**- Own the design and development of mixed-signal Circuit Card Assemblies from requirements through released, production-ready hardware.
-
Translate system requirements into component selections, circuit designs, analyses, and circuit-level verification methods.
-
Use electrical and electronic computer-aided design tools for schematic capture, Circuit Card Assembly design, and Printed Wiring Board layout review.
-
Partner with Printed Wiring Board manufacturers to resolve fabrication and assembly questions and enable successful hardware builds.
-
Design or specify test methods, automated test equipment, test sets, and cable harnesses that verify electronic hardware performance.
-
Apply electromagnetic interference design practices and resolve Circuit Card Assembly and system-level electromagnetic interference issues.
-
Bring hardware to life through prototype checkout, troubleshooting, verification, and redesign of prototype and production hardware.
-
Serve as a hands-on engineering partner to production, diagnosing electrical issues and driving timely, configuration-controlled corrective actions.
-
Collaborate with systems, mechanical, software, firmware, manufacturing, quality, supply-chain, and program teams to deliver integrated hardware solutions.
-
Develop engineering estimates, schedules, design documentation, design-review material, and technical procurement inputs.
-
Mentor developing engineers and help Electrical Engineering leads plan and delegate technical work.
-
Work onsite in Northampton, Massachusetts, with occasional business travel by exception.
-
Obtain and maintain a United States Government Secret security clearance.**
Qualifications
**- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of six years of prior relevant experience; Graduate Degree and a minimum of four years of prior related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of ten years of prior related experience.
-
Hands-on experience designing, analyzing, testing, and troubleshooting mixed-signal Circuit Card Assemblies.
-
Experience using electrical and electronic computer-aided design tools for schematic capture, Circuit Card Assembly design, and Printed Wiring Board layout review.
-
Knowledge of electromagnetic interference design, analysis, testing, and troubleshooting for Circuit Card Assemblies and higher-level electronic systems.
-
Experience taking electronic hardware from concept through verification, release, integration, and production support.
-
Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly through engineering documentation, design reviews, and cross-functional discussions.
-
Ability to obtain and maintain a United States Government Secret security clearance.**
Preferred Additional Skills
**- Experience with Mentor Graphics Xpedition and/or PADS.
-
Experience with FPGA-based electronics, including Xilinx devices and VHDL; familiarity with TIVA microcontrollers or digital signal processors.
-
Experience with electronics used in maritime, defense, or other high-reliability applications.
-
Experience designing automated test equipment, test sets, or cable harnesses.
-
Familiarity with configuration management, engineering change control, and production documentation.
-
Familiarity with thermal, tolerance, and reliability analysis for electronic hardware.
-
Experience supporting electronics manufacturing, failure analysis, and corrective redesign.
