Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an Electrical Construction Cost Engineer to join our NYCDEP Construction Management team in Yonkers, New York. This position offers the opportunity to support a major infrastructure project by delivering accurate, defensible cost estimates and helping the project team evaluate and negotiate electrical change orders.

This is a full-time, onsite position based at an NYCDEP construction project in Yonkers, New York.

In this role, you will apply your electrical construction estimating expertise to prepare independent, complete, and accurate cost estimates for design changes and field-condition change orders. You will evaluate contractor proposals, review time-and-material records and supporting cost documentation, validate labor, material, and equipment pricing, and help lead cost negotiations. You will also prepare independent estimates for potential change orders and submit clear, well-supported recommendations to the client.

Role accountabilities:

In this position you will be expected to prepare independent electrical cost estimates for proposed and negotiated change orders, including quantity takeoffs; labor, material, and equipment pricing; vendor quote validation; historical cost analysis; markups; and indirect costs. You will have frequent interaction with the contractor and be expected to evaluate contractor cost proposals using contract documents, plan takeoffs, subcontractor proposals, estimating software, field knowledge, and applicable industry standards. Part of this responsibility will be to verify that estimates and recommendations comply with NYCDEP contract requirements, project procedures, and recognized estimating practices. Additional responsbilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing contractor time-and-material records and supporting cost documentation for accuracy, completeness, and inclusion in monthly payment requisitions.

  • Leading negotiations for electrical change orders and provide estimating support for multidisciplinary change orders that include electrical scope.

  • Preparing Authorized Cost Breakdown spreadsheets, negotiation memoranda, and other clear, auditable documentation for negotiated change orders.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, construction management, or a related field.

  • At least five years of electrical construction cost estimating experience.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and one or more estimating platforms such as Sage Estimating (Timberline), Bluebeam, NECA estimating resources, RSMeans, McCormick Systems, Trimble Accubid, or comparable software.

Preferred Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Hands-on electrical construction field experience; prior experience as an electrical tradesperson is a plus.

  • Experience with complex industrial, water, wastewater, heavy civil, mechanical, or instrumentation and controls projects.

  • Experience on NYCDEP construction projects, including change-order administration and capital project payment requisitions.

  • Professional certifications or credentials related to construction management, project management, or electrical estimating, such as CCM or PMP.

  • Strong analytical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain organized, auditable cost records.
