About the job

A Phoenix-area defense robotics company is seeking an Embedded Hardware Engineer to join its full-time engineering team. This role focuses on the design and development of advanced unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) platforms that operate individually and as coordinated robotic swarms. You'll work across power electronics, embedded systems, networking, PCB design, and hardware integration while helping bring next-generation autonomous robotics technology from concept through deployment.

This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on cutting-edge robotics with real-world applications. The ideal candidate enjoys owning products end-to-end, from architecture and board design through field support and continuous improvement. You'll work alongside a highly experienced multidisciplinary team building sophisticated autonomous systems in a fast-moving startup environment, with significant exposure to robotics, embedded firmware, defense technology, and advanced vehicle platforms.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience designing mixed-signal and power electronics for battery-powered systems
  • Expertise with schematic capture and multilayer PCB layout using Altium Designer
  • Knowledge of DC-DC power conversion, power distribution, protection circuits, and high-current system design
  • Experience with STM32 microcontrollers, embedded C, and RTOS-based firmware development
  • Proficiency with CAN/FDCAN, Ethernet networking, and embedded communications protocols
  • Experience with board bring-up, validation, oscilloscope-based debugging, and hardware troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with thermal analysis, environmental testing, and ruggedized electronics design
  • Experience collaborating with mechanical engineering teams on hardware integration
  • Ability to identify root causes of hardware failures and implement long-term design improvements
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
  • Ability to work onsite in the Phoenix metropolitan area

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience developing unmanned ground vehicles, autonomous systems, or robotics platforms
