About the job
STV is seeking a Senior Project Architect for our Buildings group in Philadelphia. The Senior Project Architect is a senior technical advisor who supports multiple project teams through design, detailing, construction documentation, and construction administration. The role does not lead a project team. The Senior Architect works alongside Project Architects to strengthen the technical quality of their projects and to mentor them in their responsibilities, and helps build the Philadelphia office's technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a technical advisor to Project Architects on multiple concurrent projects. The Senior Architect helps teams resolve design intent into buildable details, works through complex assemblies and interfaces, and advises on constructability and coordination. Project Architects retain responsibility for leading their teams and producing the documents.
Conduct technical and QA/QC reviews of drawing sets and specifications at key milestones, identifying coordination gaps and working with teams to resolve them before issue. Reviews are performed in the Revit model and in PDF, with markups and direction provided to the production team.
Advise project teams during construction administration on submittals, RFIs, field conditions, and detail revisions. Uphold code compliance across assigned projects, applying working knowledge of all applicable building and life safety codes and the permitting and approval processes of the authorities having jurisdiction. The Senior Architect may be asked to serve as architect of record, stamping and signing drawings on assigned projects.
Mentor Project Architects and staff, both informally through project work and through formal mentoring. Help build the Philadelphia office's local technical standards, including details, documentation practices, and QA/QC tools, in alignment with STV's firmwide standards.
Qualifications — Required
● Registered Architect (RA) with an active U.S. registration required; Pennsylvania registration held or obtained within 6 months of hire, with additional state registrations maintained or reinstated as project needs require. NCARB certification preferred.
● 15+ years of progressive architecture experience, including design detailing, construction documentation, and construction administration.
● Working knowledge of applicable building and life safety codes and local permitting and approval processes.
● Demonstrated record producing coordinated construction document sets across a range of building types.
● Working knowledge of Revit/BIM workflows, with the ability to review models and drawings and direct production through markups.
● Strong technical detailing, constructability, building envelope, and specification coordination skills.
Qualifications — Preferred
● Experience across multiple market sectors and building types.
● Experience with alternate delivery methods, including design-build.
● Experience serving as architect of record, including stamping and signing construction documents.
● Demonstrated mentorship and development of architectural staff.
