Job Summary

WW Clyde is looking for a CAD Technician to help with digital modeling and CAD work across the company. You'll build and maintain 3D construction models for heavy civil projects like highways, bridges, earthwork, and utilities. You'll make sure those models are accurate, up to date, and ready for GPS machine control and field layout. You'll also work with a team of CAD technicians, create company standards and workflows, support BIM initiatives, and partner with project managers, engineers, and surveyors. This is a great fit for an experienced CAD/BIM professional who understands heavy civil construction and enjoys mentoring others.

RESPONSIBILTIES

  • 3D Modeling: Lead the creation of 3D models, including terrain surfaces, roadway alignments, utility networks, and structural components, so they're accurate and ready for machine control, staking, and visualization.
  • Software: Use Trimble Business Center and other Trimble tools every day, along with Civil 3D and SketchUp, to process survey data, combine design files, and produce models and drawings.
  • Standards and Workflows: Create and maintain CAD/BIM standards, templates, and workflows for the Construction Technology Group. Keep models updated for design changes and as-builts, and use version control and quality checks.
  • Project Coordination: Work with estimators, engineers, project managers, and field supervisors to gather data, combine plans and survey information into models, and lead model reviews to catch issues early.
  • Field Support: Work with field crews and surveyors to deploy models for GPS machine control and layout, and adjust models based on field feedback or site conditions.
  • Team Leadership: Train and mentor CAD technicians, provide hands-on software training, and maintain high quality across all projects.
  • Technology and Innovation: Evaluate new tools such as drone photogrammetry, 4D modeling, and AR/VR, recommend improvements, and lead pilot programs that help WW Clyde stay competitive.
  • Cross-Department Support: Partner with IT on hardware, software licensing, upgrades, and troubleshooting. Work with safety and quality teams to add relevant data, such as utility locates, into project plans.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience: 5+ years in heavy civil construction, survey, construction modeling, or CAD/BIM, with a proven track record building terrain and utility models for large civil projects.
  • Trimble: High proficiency in Trimble Business Center and machine control workflows. Experience with Trimble total stations, GNSS receivers, or Trimble Connect, and the ability to build models that work with Trimble field equipment.
  • Software: Skilled in Civil 3D and SketchUp. AutoCAD, Navisworks, or Revit experience is a plus. Able to learn new software quickly.
  • Construction Knowledge: Strong understanding of grading, utility installation, and road construction, and how survey and design data turn into field work. Experience with design revisions and as-built models.
  • Leadership: Experience leading, training, or supervising CAD drafters, modelers, or survey staff, with strong communication skills.
  • Organization: Able to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and keep work accurate and detail oriented.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience. CAD/BIM, surveying, or Trimble certifications are a plus.
  • Mindset: Passionate about construction technology, self-driven, and eager to solve problems with new tools.
