Job Description:

Job Title Workout / Recovery Management Director Corporate Title Director

Location New York, NY

Overview

As the Director on the Workout and Recovery Team, you will be a key member of Deutsche Bank’s Lending franchise, focusing on risk management for underperforming or distressed clients. You will work in close collaboration with Workout colleagues to analyze transactions from underperforming clients or in distressed situations; You will also manage a diversified portfolio and participate in regulatory audits. The role involves analyzing complex transactions, leading workout strategies, and ensuring compliance with credit policies and regulations. As a senior member of Workout / Recovery Management, you will lead the restructuring and resolution of complex, stressed and distressed corporate credit exposures; You will own case strategy and execution, apply independent judgment, constructively challenge stakeholders and deliver the best risk-adjusted outcome for the Bank. The role requires commercial discipline, clear recommendations and calm leadership where information is incomplete and stakeholder objectives conflict.

What We Offer You

  • A diverse and inclusive environment that embraces change, innovation, and collaboration
  • A hybrid working model, allowing for in-office / work from home flexibility, generous vacation, personal and volunteer days
  • Employee Resource Groups support an inclusive workplace for everyone and promote community engagement
  • Competitive compensation packages including health and wellbeing benefits, retirement savings plans, parental leave, and family building benefits
  • Educational resources, matching gift and volunteer programs

What You’ll Do

  • Own complex distressed cases from diagnosis through resolution; develop and execute restructuring, refinancing, debt-sale, enforcement or insolvency strategies
  • Assess business viability, cash flows, liquidity, enterprise and collateral value, debt capacity and capital structures; challenge borrower plans, forecasts and adviser assumptions. Compare base, upside and downside recovery scenarios, weighing timing, execution risk and additional funding or concessions to distinguish value-preserving support from delayed recognition of deterioration
  • Evaluate covenants, guarantees, security, cash-management and intercreditor arrangements with legal counsel to establish the Bank’s rights, leverage and alternatives
  • Lead negotiations with borrowers, sponsors, lenders and advisers; resist unsupported demands and artificial deadlines, balancing constructive compromise with credible contractual alternatives
  • Present clear, evidence-based recommendations to senior management and approval forums, distinguishing facts, assumptions and judgment and revising strategy as evidence changes
  • Maintain disciplined portfolio monitoring, decision records and governance; escalate deterioration promptly and ensure compliance with applicable credit, legal, regulatory and internal requirements

How You’ll Lead

  • Provide senior case direction and respectful, robust challenge to internal and external stakeholders, including senior decisionmakers
  • Coach Vice Presidents and junior colleagues in credit analysis, commercial judgment and negotiation; review the underlying case thesis, not just the presentation
  • Foster open challenge and timely escalation, demonstrate calm accountability under pressure and improve workout methodology and portfolio governance

Skills You’ll Need

  • Significant experience in corporate or leveraged credit, restructuring, special assets, workout or restructuring advisory, including complex distressed borrowers and capital structures
  • Demonstrated execution of restructuring and recovery strategies and negotiation with sophisticated borrowers, sponsors, lenders and legal advisers
  • Strong financial modeling, cash-flow forecasting, valuation and recovery analysis; ability to assess contractual rights and restructuring alternatives commercially and from a risk perspective
  • Experience presenting complex or contentious recommendations to senior decision makers and credit committees. Success means quickly diagnosing deterioration, establishing realistic business value and recovery, identifying the Bank’s leverage and executing a defensible resolution strategy
  • Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimize workflows to solve business problems, while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs

Skills That Will Help You Excel

  • Independent judgment, commercial instincts and ownership of difficult decisions
  • Confidence to challenge consensus while remaining open to contrary evidence
  • Clear written and verbal communication, disciplined prioritization and the ability to build effective working relationships without compromising the Bank’s interests
