About the role

Proofpoint’s FP&A Topline team is looking for a motivated, analytical financial analyst to support top-line forecasting across revenue, billings, renewals, and customer retention. This is a highly visible role with regular face time with leadership.

Reporting to the Manager, FP&A, you’ll help refine company-wide top-line reporting and work with Finance, Accounting, Sales, and Sales Operations to build scalable processes for a growing business.

We want an execution-focused teammate who learns our SaaS business quickly and backs business decisions with in-depth analysis, with a strategic point of view and a mentality to win.

Location: This is a hybrid role in our Sunnyvale, CA office Monday through Thursday.

Cadence: Expect peak intensity around month-end close, quarter-end, and planning cycles.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather, consolidate, and analyze operating, financial, and sales results, including in-depth analysis of revenue and bookings trends, expected renewals, customer retention, and variances, to support internal and external reporting.
  • Analyze key SaaS metrics, identify new leading indicators, and provide executive-level insights.
  • Support short- and long-term revenue and billings forecasting, with a solid understanding of revenue accounting principles (ASC 606).
  • Contribute to annual and quarterly planning and forecasting, and to long-range strategic planning for billings and revenue.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining forecast models that drive insight and support informed recommendations to management.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis and support the preparation of reports and presentations for executives and Board of Directors meetings.
  • Contribute to improving business processes to help scale a rapidly growing business.
  • Support the monthly and quarterly close for top-line reporting, including renewals, billings, and revenue roll-forwards, reconciling source systems, and explaining variances to forecast.
  • Partner with Sales Operations and Accounting to monitor pipeline, renewal, and at-risk coverage and translate it into forecast risks and opportunities.

You may be a good fit if you:

Experience and education

  • Have 2–4 years of experience in financial analysis or a comparable analytical role at a high-growth public technology company, preferably SaaS.
  • Hold a BA/BS degree with a strong academic record, preferably in Economics, Business, or Finance, or have equivalent real-world experience.
  • Know revenue accounting standards, including ASC 606 (a plus).

Analytical and technical skills

  • Have proven experience managing large datasets and developing insights from ambiguous data to recommend team decisions, with superior analytical and data-modeling skills, including advanced Excel (pivot tables, INDEX/MATCH, and similar) and the ability to quickly build reports.
  • Bonus: working knowledge of Salesforce.com, Adaptive Planning, RevPro, Power BI, and Microsoft 365, plus experience using AI tools like Claude to speed up analysis and reporting.

How you work

  • Bring exceptional attention to detail and sound business judgment.
  • Communicate well, with strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Tell a clear story with data, distilling complex analysis into a concise recommendation for senior leaders and the Board.
  • Stay comfortable with ambiguity and tight close and reporting deadlines, prioritizing well and keeping quality high under pressure.
  • Take initiative on automation and process improvement, looking for a better way whenever you see a manual task.
