About the job

LV Petroleum is seeking an HR & Payroll Operations Specialist to own payroll, employment tax, unemployment, garnishment, and employee-lifecycle administration for a multistate workforce. Based at corporate headquarters, this role is the day-to-day operator behind every paycheck, tax filing, and personnel transaction, and a key partner to Finance, Operations, and site leadership as the company expands into new states.

The ideal candidate is detail-driven, deadline-driven, and comfortable owning these functions end to end in a fast-paced, acquisition-active environment.

Requirements

Payroll & Employment Tax

•         Process end-to-end payroll on each scheduled cycle, including hourly, salaried, tipped, and bonus pay

•         Reconcile timekeeping data and resolve discrepancies before every run

•         Calculate, deposit, and reconcile federal, state, and local employment taxes

•         Maintain employer tax registrations in every state with employees and set up new jurisdictions as the footprint grows

•         Research and resolve agency notices to closure

Unemployment Claims

•         Respond to state unemployment insurance claims within statutory deadlines with complete separation documentation

•         Represent the company's position in protests, appeals, and hearings

•         Review benefit charge statements and experience ratings and dispute improper charges

•         Track claim outcomes and share trends with HR and Operations to strengthen separation practices

Garnishments & Wage Orders

•         Receive, log, and process child-support orders, tax levies, creditor garnishments, and bankruptcy orders

•         Remit payments on schedule and respond to agency interrogatories

•         Notify affected employees and maintain complete order files

Multistate HR Operations

•         Administer HR compliance in every state where LV Petroleum operates, including wage-and-hour rules, pay frequency, final-pay timing, paid-leave mandates, and required postings

•         Complete new-hire reporting and other state filings on time

•         Keep policies, handbooks, and HRIS configurations current with changes in state and local law

•         Advise site and regional managers on state-specific requirements

Onboarding & Terminations

•         Run new-hire administration: offer letters, new-hire paperwork, Form I-9 and E-Verify, background-check coordination, and benefits and payroll enrollment

•         Set up new employees in the HRIS and payroll system accurately and before their first payroll

•         Process separations, including final pay within state deadlines, COBRA and benefits-termination notices, property recovery, and system access removal

•         Partner with Talent Acquisition to keep new-hire records complete from offer through first payroll

Verifications & Records

•         Respond to employment and income verification requests from lenders, agencies, and other authorized parties within established turnaround times

•         Maintain accurate, audit-ready personnel and payroll records

•         Support workers' compensation, 401(k), and financial audits with required data and reports

Qualifications & Experience

•         3–5+ years of hands-on payroll and HR operations experience, including at least 2 years processing multistate payroll and employment-tax filings

•         Direct experience responding to unemployment claims and processing garnishments from receipt through remittance

•         Strong working knowledge of state unemployment insurance programs, Form I-9 and E-Verify, and state final-pay and leave requirements

•         Proficiency in a major payroll/HRIS platform (Paychex Flex or equivalent) and in Excel (PivotTables, lookups)

•         Experience in a multi-site retail, hospitality, convenience-store, or food-service environment with hourly and tipped workforces preferred

•         Familiarity with an applicant tracking system (Workable or similar) and with benefits, 401(k), and workers' compensation administration is a plus

Education

•         High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business, or a related field preferred

•         FPC or CPP (PayrollOrg), SHRM-CP, or PHR certification is a plus

Required Skills & Competencies

•         Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail

•         Ability to meet fixed payroll and filing deadlines without exception

•         Discretion with confidential employee and compensation information

•         Clear written and verbal communication with employees, managers, and agency representatives

•         Proven ability to work independently as the sole owner of these functions

Benefits

What We Offer

•         Competitive base salary

•         Full benefits offered

•         A direct hand in building the HR and payroll backbone of a high-growth, multistate company

•         Collaborative, entrepreneurial corporate office environment in Las Vegas

If you are a detail-driven payroll and HR professional who wants to grow with a fast-moving, acquisition-active company, we encourage you to apply.
