Job Description
Scope of Position
The Critical Care, Outpatient, and Outreach Laboratories encompass specimen collection, processing and testing services within the Department of Clinical Laboratories. The critical care laboratories are staffed 24 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday. The outpatient and outreach laboratories are staffed 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
Position Summary
The laboratory student technician receives, accessions, and processes laboratory specimens. This technician also transports specimens and answers telephone inquiries regarding patient results, specimen collection requirements, and test availability. This lab tech I works under the direction of the medical laboratory technician -- shift coordinator and lead medical technologist -- customer services.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: Enrolled in a four year or two year science related field. Prefer the program to be Medical Technology
On going: Meets minimum continuing education requirements and mandatory health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
