About the job

The Counseling Center is a critical component of Student Success at the University of South Florida, located in beautiful Tampa Bay on Florida's spectacular west coast. The Counseling Center strives to support the mental health and well-being of the 44,000 enrolled graduate and undergraduate students at the USF Tampa campus. Through the provision of high quality clinical services and evidenced-based practice, innovative outreach, consultation, and education, the Counseling Center is recognized and valued for its contribution to the success of an exceptionally diverse student body. The Counseling Center, with a dedicated, energetic, and motivated team of 30 multidisciplinary professionals including licensed psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, licensed clinical social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, and administrative support personnel is accredited by IACS and has an APA-accredited doctoral internship and APPIC affiliated post-doctoral fellowships. The Counseling Center is committed to a team approach to client care across all staff. With a thriving group therapy program, interdisciplinary training programs, and ongoing consultation opportunities, the Counseling Center is seeking staff clinicians with a commitment to excellence, culturally responsive care, and who would enhance the diversity and resources of our staff.

Considered essential staff, this position is responsive to the mental health needs of students during and following critical events such as severe weather incidents or campus emergencies.

Clinicians are expected to be knowledgeable of culturally responsive approaches to mental health treatment, and skilled in treating common presenting concerns of college-age students including anxiety, depression, substance misuse, eating disorders, and interpersonal trauma, with evidenced-based interventions.

Consults with center colleagues regarding off-campus referrals. Responsibilities may include special assignments as determined by the Director, Associate Directors, or Assistant Directors, including committee tasks, clinical supervision, or coordination of specialized clinical service programs.
  • Supervises the clinical and academic experiences of practicum students enrolled in mental health academic training programs (e.g., social work, mental health counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology).
  • Participates in Counseling Center sponsored outreach and consultation programming for the university community. Develops and participates in psychoeducational presentations, as assigned, for all USF students. Establishes a consultative liaison relationship with a strategic campus partner.
