How You'll Contribute

A Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) who excels in this role:

• Prepares operating rooms for surgical procedures by ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and sterile.

• Establishes and maintains the sterile field throughout surgical procedures.

• Anticipates the needs of surgeons and assists by passing instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery.

• Verifies instrument, sponge, and needle counts according to established policies and procedures.

• Assists with patient positioning, skin preparation, and operating room setup.

• Handles surgical specimens according to policy and procedure.

• Consistently follows aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.

• Assists with cleaning, sterilizing, and preparing surgical instruments and equipment.

• Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other members of the surgical team to ensure safe and efficient patient care.

• Documents required information accurately and in a timely manner.

• Participates in required education, competency validation, and performance improvement activities.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program required.

Licensure

• N/A

Certifications

• Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required.
• Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Key services include a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a 12-bed Geriatric Psychiatry Unit, a 12-bed Acute Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation Unit, a Skilled Nursing Unit, Sleep Lab, Cardiac Catheterization Lab, five Operating Rooms, and two Endoscopy Suites. Advanced diagnostic imaging services include MRI, CT, PET/CT, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and X-ray.

Highpoint Health – Sewanee with Ascension Saint Thomas, located on the campus of the University of the South, is a 41-bed facility offering 21 general acute care beds and 20 skilled nursing beds. The campus includes a 4-bay Emergency Department that cares for more than 5,000 patients each year.
