Position Summary

The Department of Neurological Surgery is seeking a full-time physician for appointment as a Clinical Instructor. This position is designed for a neurosurgeon who can function independently in the operating room, participate in the general neurosurgery call schedule, and contribute actively to resident education, advanced surgical training, and laboratory-based research.

The Clinical Instructor will be expected to demonstrate independent clinical judgment and operative competence in general neurosurgery. Responsibilities will include managing neurosurgical emergencies and trauma cases, performing cerebrospinal fluid diversion procedures, including ventricular shunt placement and revision, and treating neurosurgical infections and other commonly encountered general neurosurgical conditions. These cases will provide focused training in complex skull base surgery, endoscopic endonasal and other endoscope-assisted approaches, endoscopic aneurysm surgery, cerebrovascular procedures, and open cranial approaches. The position is intended to provide progressive exposure to advanced techniques while allowing the physician to make meaningful contributions to patient care and resident education.

A central component of the position will be leadership within the surgical anatomy and neuroanatomy laboratory. The Clinical Instructor will help supervise the laboratory and serve as the primary point of reference for international research fellows and visiting scholars. These fellows may come from institutions around the world to conduct studies involving microsurgical and endoscopic anatomy, comparative analyses of operative approaches, cadaveric dissections, and the development of innovative surgical techniques.

The Clinical Instructor will be responsible for supporting the organization and execution of laboratory projects, guiding fellows in anatomical dissections and research methodology, ensuring appropriate laboratory practices, and facilitating collaboration among clinical faculty, residents, research fellows, and visiting investigators. The physician will also contribute to the preparation of scientific presentations, manuscripts, educational materials, and other scholarly work arising from the laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Preferred candidate will have combined independent general neurosurgical capability with a strong commitment to teaching, academic productivity, neuroanatomical research, and the advancement of skull base and endoscope-assisted surgical techniques.
