About the job

The Legal, Compliance, Audit, Risk and Sustainability (LCARS) team at Verisk is seeking an experienced Legal Operations Manager to partner closely with the Head of LCARS Operations in supporting the functions reporting to Verisk’s Chief Legal Officer (CLO).

This role combines hands-on operational leadership, project and program management, and a data-driven approach to departmental performance. Responsibilities span financial and spend management support, contracting operations, knowledge management, process improvement, and technology implementation. The successful candidate will balance detailed execution with broader operational priorities and bring practical experience using technology, automation, and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve how work gets done.

Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership: Partner with the Head of LCARS Operations to coordinate day-to-day execution across the team’s portfolio. Translate departmental priorities into actionable plans, manage competing demands, and balance immediate needs with longer-term improvements.
  • Project & Program Management: Lead cross-functional initiatives from planning through implementation. Define scope, deliverables, timelines, and measures of success; manage risks and dependencies; and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Financial & Spend Management Support: Support budgeting, forecasting and reforecasting, expense tracking, and spend monitoring across LCARS as departmental needs evolve. Partner with functional teams and Finance to maintain accurate financial information, analyze budget variances, and support reporting and planning. Assist with accruals, invoicing, purchase orders, and outside counsel spend management, using enterprise legal management (ELM) tools such as Onit where applicable.
  • Contracting Operations & Vendor Management: Partner with relevant teams to improve contracting workflows and processes. Simplify intake, approvals, tracking, and reporting through effective use of Salesforce and workflow tools where applicable.
  • Knowledge Management: Maintain frameworks for organizing, accessing, and sharing information across LCARS, with clear content ownership, maintenance practices, and appropriate access controls.
  • Performance Metrics & Reporting: Define operational metrics and develop dashboards and reporting tools with relevant stakeholders. Promote data quality, analyze trends, and recommend improvements to resource allocation, service delivery, and performance.
  • Process Analysis & Optimization: Assess and document processes, identify bottlenecks and team member pain points, and streamline workflows. Establish baseline measures and track improvements in efficiency and consistency.
  • Technology, Automation & Applied AI: Evaluate and implement technology, automation, and AI solutions that support LCARS priorities, including building or configuring AI agents for repeatable workflows. Translate business needs into requirements, lead pilots, assess quality and business value, and partner with IT and relevant stakeholders on implementation. Support adoption through rollout planning, training, and user support, and measure ongoing effectiveness.
  • Intern & Co-op Program Management and Talent Development: Own the LCARS intern and co-op program, including interviewing and selecting candidates, onboarding, assigning projects, balancing workloads, and evaluating performance. Coordinate with stakeholders to provide meaningful assignments aligned with departmental priorities. Supervise and mentor participants through regular check-ins and constructive feedback, and support the development of junior team members.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of relevant operations experience, preferably within a corporate or in-house legal department. Candidates with demonstrated success in project and program management and process improvement, including Lean Six Sigma or comparable methodologies, will also be considered.
  • A contracting operations background and familiarity with Salesforce, CLM platforms, and workflow tools are highly preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen and prior responsibility for supporting budgeting, forecasting or reforecasting, expense tracking, and financial reporting. Experience with related financial processes or outside counsel spend management is valuable; familiarity with ELM platforms such as Onit is preferred.
  • Experience defining performance metrics and building dashboards and reporting tools using Excel, Power BI, or comparable applications.
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated experience mapping, documenting, and improving operational processes.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, including managing concurrent priorities, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, and delivering against deadlines.
  • Hands-on experience translating business needs into technology solutions, including configuring workflows or building automations, with the ability to work independently and partner with technical specialists.
  • Practical experience applying AI to business workflows. Exposure to building or configuring AI agents and using tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude, and ChatGPT is highly preferred, along with the ability to assess output quality and operational value.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and collaborative work management tools. Experience with Smartsheet, SharePoint, Power Automate, and Power Apps is preferred.
  • Experience leading adoption of new processes and tools through stakeholder engagement, rollout planning, training, and ongoing support.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messages to different audiences.
  • A collaborative approach, with demonstrated ability to build trust and productive relationships across functions.
