About the job
Come join our amazing team of leaders, learners, and world-class legal professionals accelerating Intuit’s mission of powering prosperity for consumers and small businesses all over the world. Our Enterprise Privacy team works hand in hand with our business and technology partners to build a privacy program that keeps pace with a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape, including the rise of AI-driven products and features.
Intuit is hiring a Senior Assistant General Counsel to lead the Enterprise Privacy Compliance function within our Enterprise Privacy team. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel for Enterprise Privacy, you will set the strategy and manage the day-to-day operation of Intuit’s global privacy compliance program — data subject rights, regulatory monitoring, privacy risk assessments, and the frameworks that keep our compliance posture ahead of a fast-moving legal and technical landscape. You will lead a team of two attorneys and two privacy program managers.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of two corporate counsel and two privacy program managers — setting team priorities and goals, conducting regular 1:1 coaching and development planning, giving direct performance feedback, and building the bench strength and career growth of both attorneys and non-attorney program managers.
- Own the strategy and execution of Intuit’s privacy compliance program, including data subject rights (DSR) fulfillment, privacy impact assessments, worker privacy, and related compliance workflows across the US and internationally.
- Lead privacy diligence for M&A and other strategic transactions — assessing target companies’ data practices, privacy risk, and compliance posture, and advising on the integration of acquired data assets and privacy programs post-close.
- Own Intuit’s third-party and vendor privacy risk assessment process, setting standards and workflows for evaluating vendors, partners, and other data recipients that handle personal information, and partnering with Procurement, Security, and Commercial Counsel on contractual privacy requirements.
- Partner as needed with internal 3rd and 2nd-line risk management functions including Internal Audit and Compliance Assurance
- Translate a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape (CCPA/CPRA and other US state privacy laws, GLBA, GDPR, and emerging AI-specific privacy and data protection laws) into practical, scalable compliance frameworks, playbooks, and training.
- Partner directly with engineering and product organizations on data flows, system design, and technical trade-offs to ensure compliance approaches are both legally sound and technically workable.
- Drive continuous improvement and automation of privacy compliance tooling, including PIA workflows, DSR fulfillment systems, and data mapping tools.
- Build and maintain trusted, durable relationships across Legal, Product, Engineering, Security, and Business teams, driving alignment across competing points of view to reach practical outcomes.
- Represent the Privacy Compliance function in front of senior stakeholders and, as needed, the Board and regulators.
- Monitor the global regulatory landscape and manage escalation and reporting on emerging privacy risks to the Deputy General Counsel for Enterprise Privacy and other senior legal leadership.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant legal experience in privacy compliance work, either in-house at a large company with a significant data profile or in private practice counseling similar companies on the development and refinement of world-class privacy compliance programs.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing a team, including regular coaching, performance management, and building the growth and career paths of both attorneys and non-attorney program managers.
- Experience leading privacy diligence in M&A or other strategic transactions, including evaluating acquisition targets’ data practices and integrating acquired data assets and privacy programs post-close.
- Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for data governance
- Experience designing or running a third-party/vendor privacy risk assessment program, including setting assessment standards and partnering with procurement and commercial teams on contractual privacy requirements.
- Strong working knowledge of US state and federal privacy laws (e.g., CCPA/CPRA, GLBA) and international frameworks (e.g., GDPR, PIPEDA).
- Technical fluency sufficient to engage credibly with engineering and data organizations as needed to accomplish privacy compliance objectives — you don’t need to write code, but you need to be conversant with those who do.
- Proven track record building, running, or maturing privacy compliance programs at scale.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain critical cross-functional relationships across business, legal, and technical organizations, and to influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
- Sound judgment translating complex, changing regulatory requirements into practical, business-relevant guidance for executive audiences.
- Concise and efficient communicator, comfortable operating with ambiguity as laws and technology continue to evolve.
- JD and membership in good standing with at least one US State Bar.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience advising on these issues in an AI-forward technical environment, and leveraging AI workforce tools to improve the speed and quality of execution.
- IAPP privacy or AI certification (CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or AIGP).
- Experience in a highly regulated consumer or small-business financial products environment.
- Familiarity with privacy compliance tooling and automation (e.g., PIA workflow platforms, DSR fulfillment systems, data mapping tools).
