About the job
Team Summary
Our Commercial Litigation Practice specializes in representing clients in high-stakes business disputes across a wide range of industries. We provide expert legal services in areas such as contract disputes, class actions, business torts, shareholder and partnership disputes, antitrust litigation and intellectual property litigation. Our team handles all phases of litigation, from pre-litigation counseling and strategic planning to trial and appellate proceedings. By leveraging our deep legal expertise, global reach and strategic insights, we help clients navigate complex legal challenges, protect their business interests, and achieve favorable outcomes through both court proceedings and alternative dispute resolution methods.
Position Summary
Our Commercial Litigation Practice represents leading global social media and technology companies in high-stakes disputes involving their platforms, products, and business practices. Our matters span a wide range of complex commercial disputes and class actions, including issues involving privacy and data protection, consumer protection, platform liability, advertising practices, and emerging technologies like AI.
We are seeking talented litigation associates to join our team to focus on litigation in jurisdictions outside the United States. Although the substantive legal issues and strategic approach will often be familiar to U.S. litigators, the work offers a distinctive opportunity to help develop and execute litigation strategies in foreign courts, working closely with clients and local counsel.
Our teams are lean and collaborative, and associates take meaningful responsibility from the outset. They play a central role in developing litigation strategy, analyzing complex factual and technical issues, drafting substantive pleadings, motions, and advocacy materials, and preparing matters for hearings, trial, and appeal. The position offers client exposure, opportunities to work with witnesses and experts, and substantial responsibility with sophisticated, commercially consequential disputes.
Duties and Accountabilities
Responsibilities will vary depending on client needs and the nature of a matter, but will generally include:
- Develop and drive litigation strategy for individual disputes and class actions involving social media, working closely with the litigation team, clients, and local counsel.
- Take substantial responsibility, appropriate to experience, for leanly staffed matters from initial assessment and factual investigation through pleadings, motion practice, evidence development, trial preparation, trial, and appeal.
- Draft substantive pleadings, briefs, written advocacy, and clear, practical client advice.
- Develop factual records, identify evidentiary needs, and translate complex products, technologies, and business practices into compelling litigation narratives.
- Work with client fact witnesses to develop testimony and prepare them for examination at hearings or trial.
- Work with expert witnesses to develop opinions, reports, and testimony, and assess and challenge opposing expert evidence.
- Prepare examination outlines, trial submissions, and other advocacy materials, and work closely with local counsel on courtroom presentation and execution.
- Help clients evaluate litigation exposure, strategic options, and settlement opportunities throughout a matter.
- Coordinate effectively with clients and local counsel while taking ownership of work product, deadlines, and case progression.
Qualifications
- Two to five years of commercial litigation experience at a law firm.
- Juris Doctor or equivalent degree.
- Admitted to the bar in the jurisdiction in which you would be practicing.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent drafting skills, with a commitment to factual accuracy, rigorous analysis, and persuasive advocacy.
- Experience supporting litigation across multiple stages, including factual investigation, pleadings, substantive briefing, evidence development, and witness preparation.
- An interest in complex litigation involving social media, technology, and evolving products and business models; experience with class actions or technology-related disputes is a plus.
- Ability to synthesize complex legal, factual, and technical issues into clear strategy and practical advice for legal and non-legal client stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and a pragmatic, commercially minded approach.
- Ability to manage multiple matters, prioritize effectively, and remain calm under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and creativity in addressing novel issues.
- Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, and ownership, with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a close-knit team.
- Motivation to develop litigation and trial skills and take advantage of opportunities for increasing responsibility.
- Commitment to excellent client service.
