Work Shift

Day (United States of America)

Prepares and examines samples for evidence of pathological conditions, following established standards and practices. Receives specimens sent to the laboratory and plans the method of specimen processing. Assists physicians with fine needle aspirations. Reports/maintains patient test results in an accurate/timely manner. Stains, cover slips slides and microscopically examines specimens. Presents slides to Pathologist for examination. Maintains required records, reports, and statistics as directed. Maintains good relations with all staff and clients that use clients that use cytology services.

Core Responsibilities:

Evaluates and processes GYN, Non-GYN, and FNA cytology specimens; identifies atypical and malignant cells, microorganisms, foreign objects and overall cellular patterns. Attends FNA procedures and gives adequacy evaluation at collection sites.

Performs accurate microscopic screening and evaluation of cytology specimens following regulated screening guidelines for Cytotechnologists.

Assists in maintaining established quality assurance, quality improvement and quality control records.

Attends all required training programs/in-services. Maintains required health screening exams. Maintains required certification credentials. Participates in CAP proficiency testing. Stays abreast of policy and procedure changes. Available for inspections.

Helps maintain procedure manuals and protocols to ensure compliance with CLIA 88 and CAP regulations. Abides by all safety regulations in the laboratory, follows CAP guidelines for all areas of safety.

Position Requirements: Bachelor's degree in science related field and complete cytology program and 1 year or more of experience in cytotechnology to include experience on both GYN and NonGyn diagnostics. Diagnose and report cytology cases accurately. CT (ASCP).
