What Your Job Will Be Like:
As the leader of the Design, Utilities & Energy group (4930), you will guide a high-impact organization responsible for delivering essential facilities and infrastructure services that directly support Sandia¿s mission. This senior management role oversees four departments: In-house Design (IHD), In-house Construction (IHC), Facilities Express, and Energy, Architecture, & CADD.
Your organization includes approximately 130 employees across multiple disciplines, including engineers, architects, interior designers, CADD operators, energy professionals, project managers, planners, administrators, and craft workers. You will lead a management team of four managers and five team leaders.
Formed just three years ago, the group has evolved rapidly to bring in-house design, construction, and facilities services together under one team. Today, these teams perform about 60% of all non-capital facilities and infrastructure projects, representing nearly $10M annually. The energy management team also plays a critical role in conserving energy and advancing resilient, reliable solutions that support Sandia¿s mission. A major current initiative includes the renovation of the building automation system (BAS) to modernize controls for building assets and systems.
This is a pivotal leadership opportunity. Over the past three years, the organization has helped create a faster, more cost-effective model for mission delivery. Going forward, the challenge is to refine that model, identify the right balance of value, and sustain a high-performing organization that can meet Sandia¿s growing national security demands. Success will require a strong focus on innovation, efficiency, safety, security, quality, and speed, with AI, automation, and data analytics playing an increasingly important role.
Near-Term Priorities
-
Maintain the right capabilities and align resources with Sandia¿s highest-priority mission work.
-
Build strong relationships across the division to strengthen collaboration and operate as one integrated team.
-
Identify key customers and deepen partnerships that help them deliver to the nation more effectively.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
-
Develop organizational metrics that measure health, productivity, value delivered, and impact to the Labs.
-
Set and monitor quality standards to ensure work meets Prime Contract requirements and professional industry standards.
-
Shape long-range strategy by establishing goals, building a strong organizational culture, and supporting professional growth and development.
-
Lead A&E and contractor service-delivery augmentation, including policy, process, training, work intake, prioritization, and matrixed partner integration.
-
Provide senior leadership by aligning the center¿s mission with division and laboratory priorities, managing performance and risk, empowering managers, allocating resources, partnering across organizations, and leading through change.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time, with occasional remote work as needed.
