Laborup is hiring a CNC Machinist in Santa Clara, California, United States. Posted October 20, 2026.
About the job
Join an engineering-driven precision manufacturer building the future of American manufacturing. You'll machine complex, tight-tolerance components for the aerospace, defense, semiconductor, and medical industries while working in a shop that invests in advanced technology, high-quality equipment, and skilled machinists.
We're looking for experienced CNC Lathe Setup Machinists who can confidently own the entire setup process — from reading blueprints and G-code to loading tooling, setting offsets, proving out first articles, and making machine-side program adjustments before releasing jobs into production.
This is a hands-on setup role, not simply a machine operator position. You'll work with advanced CNC turning centers, including live tooling and Y-axis capabilities, in a precision manufacturing environment.
Compensation:
- $35-$41/hour (based on experience)
Schedule:
- 2nd shift: Monday–Friday: 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Responsibilities:
- Independently set up CNC lathes and turning centers for precision machining operations.
- Perform complete machine setups, including tooling selection, workholding, tool offsets, and first-piece inspection.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, G-code, and GD&T requirements.
- Load and prove out CNC programs, making machine-side adjustments as needed.
- Set up and perform turning operations including facing, boring, threading, grooving, drilling, and contouring.
- Work with live tooling and Y-axis machining capabilities on complex components.
- Troubleshoot tooling, dimensional, surface-finish, and machining issues.
- Inspect first articles and finished components using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Make adjustments to feeds, speeds, tooling, and offsets to improve machining performance.
- Maintain tight tolerances while machining a variety of metals and engineered materials.
- Take ownership of assigned machines, setups, and production quality throughout the shift.
Requirements
- 5+ years of CNC lathe setup experience in a precision machine shop.
- Ability to independently perform complete CNC lathe setups from start to finish.
- Strong understanding of CNC turning processes, cutting tools, feeds and speeds, and workholding.
- Experience reading G-code and making basic CNC program edits at the machine.
- Strong blueprint reading skills and working knowledge of GD&T.
- Experience machining tight-tolerance components and performing first-piece inspections.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments without constant supervision.
- Comfortable working independently on second shift.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Full-time, direct-hire opportunity
