Job Description:
Role: The Director of Project Management leads the Project Management department and helps the agency deliver its best work through thoughtful planning, proactive problem-solving, and strong cross-functional collaboration. This role partners closely with integrated agency leads to connect people, processes, and priorities from brief through delivery.
This is a working leadership role. Alongside leading and developing the PM team, the Director actively contributes to client work, and supports new-business efforts as needed, as well as other agency-wide initiatives. The role is also accountable for PM resource allocation, aligning team capacity and skills with client and agency needs, financial plans, and staffing realities.
The successful candidate will lead the evolution of Project Management beyond tracking creative deliverables. They will champion PM as a collaborative, proactive team that helps shape how work gets done and improves the quality of outputs across disciplines. As an operational leader, they will identify opportunities to simplify and standardize workflows, improve efficiency, and strengthen consistency across the agency, while ensuring processes remain flexible enough to support different teams, clients, and types of work. They bring a broad understanding of content and production and know how to guide integrated work through the right process, from planning through delivery.
Expectations:
- Invest in comprehensive understanding of Carmichael Lynch workflows, systems, and cross-departmental dependencies to ensure seamless integration and strategic alignment.
- Serve as a working manager leading and owning client projects for a portion of time.
- Flex between senior strategic leadership and hands-on execution as required by job, team, and client needs, leveraging operational acumen to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
- Manage operations and resourcing for the PM department, applying best practices in capacity planning and workflow optimization.
- Help train teams from all departments on process, best practices, and adoption of tools and resources (such as Workfront and asset management tools).
- Operationalize and translate how the way we work corresponds with the financial health of the account and team derived from deep business understanding (forecasting, run rates, operation metrics, individual performance, etc).
Areas of Focus and Traits:
- Integrated Skillset. You are well-versed in what makes an integrated team and campaign successful and understand how to orchestrate across channels and mediums.
- Strong Communication. You're an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing. You say what needs to be said clearly, concisely, and respectfully. - Creative Problem-Solving. You look for solutions and apply your skills creatively to solve them. You're willing to pitch in on any task, big or small. You're resourceful and innovative but you also know how to follow process (and maybe even know how to create a better one).
- Championing Great Work. You believe strong processes should enable, not constrain, great work. You help teams create the conditions for their best thinking and craft to thrive by bringing the right people together, clarifying goals, and keeping collaboration focused on the work’s potential.
- Leadership. You have proven experience managing direct reports and leading cross-functional teams through complex initiatives. You contribute to process improvements across your cross-functional teams and beyond.
