Job Summary

We are seeking a strategic and analytical Manager to build and lead our Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process end to end. This role will support demand planning and supply planning, and will connect them through a disciplined inventory strategy that balances customer service, working capital and plant efficiency.

The Manager will design and run a monthly S&OP cycle that aligns Sales, Operations, Finance and Procurement on one plan. The role will convert the unit-based forecast into a financial forecast, lead network analysis, and develop a run strategy based on economic order quantities (EOQ) and set safety stock levels mathematically using ABC SKU classifications. Reporting to the VP of Operations, this leader will partner closely with the demand and supply planning teams.

Job Location

This position is based out of Atlanta, GA.

Job Responsibilities

S&OP Process Leadership

  • Design, implement and own a monthly S&OP process, including data gathering, demand review, supply review, pre-S&OP reconciliation and the executive S&OP meeting.

  • Establish the S&OP calendar, meeting charters, roles and responsibilities, and escalation process.

  • Lead a rolling 18–24 month planning horizon at the product family level, with SKU-level detail in the near term.

  • Develop scenario plans (upside, downside, capacity constraints) and quantify the impact on revenue, margin and inventory.

  • Align the S&OP volume plan with the annual operating plan and monthly financial forecast in partnership with Finance.

Demand Planning Support

  • Support the development of statistical baseline forecasts by SKU, location and product family, accounting for seasonality and market drivers.

  • Support the consensus demand review with Sales, Marketing and Product Management, incorporating promotions, large projects, new products and phase-outs.

  • Help measure and improve forecast accuracy and bias by product family, customer and region.

  • Support new product introductions and end-of-life transitions within the demand plan.

Supply Planning Support

  • Support the translation of the approved demand plan into feasible production, procurement and distribution plans across facilities.

  • Support rough-cut capacity planning by plant and line, identifying constraints and resolution options in advance.

  • Support the master production schedule and maintain the planning parameters that drive material and purchase requirements.

  • Partner with Procurement on supplier capacity, lead times and long-lead material commitments.

Run Strategy & Economic Order Quantities

  • Develop a run strategy for every SKU, defining how often and in what quantity each item is produced or purchased.

  • Calculate economic order quantities (EOQ) and economic production quantities using demand, setup/order cost and carrying cost.

  • Convert run quantities into production cycles and sequences (e.g., product wheels) that minimize changeovers and fit available capacity.

  • Review and update run strategy inputs regularly as demand, setup times and costs change.

Inventory Optimization & Safety Stock

  • Classify SKUs using ABC analysis based on revenue or volume contribution, refreshed on a regular cadence.

  • Calculate safety stock mathematically using demand variability, forecast error, lead time variability and target service levels by ABC class.

  • Set reorder points and min/max levels in the ERP system based on these calculations.

  • Reduce excess and obsolete inventory while protecting service to customers.

Financial Forecasting

  • Convert the unit-based demand and supply plan into a financial forecast covering revenue, cost of goods sold, margin and inventory value.

  • Apply pricing, product mix, standard costs and freight assumptions to translate volume into dollars.

  • Reconcile the S&OP financial view with the annual operating plan and monthly forecasts in partnership with FP&A.

  • Highlight gaps to plan and quantify the financial impact of demand, supply and inventory scenarios.

Network Analysis

  • Analyze the manufacturing and distribution network to determine the best sourcing and production location for each SKU.

  • Model plant capacity, freight costs, lead times and customer service to support make, buy and stocking decisions.

  • Evaluate network scenarios such as capacity additions, line moves, new distribution points and consolidations.

  • Recommend network changes that lower total landed cost while maintaining service levels.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain dashboards to track key measures: forecast accuracy, inventory (lbs) and excess and obsolete inventory.

  • Present findings, risks and recommendations to senior leadership through the monthly S&OP cycle.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Coach and support demand and supply planners on S&OP tools and best practices.

  • Partner with Sales, Manufacturing, Finance, Procurement and Logistics to embed planning discipline across the business.

  • Drive improvements in planning tools, ERP capabilities and processes.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Supply Chain, Business, Industrial Engineering, or related field (master’s or MBA preferred).

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in supply chain planning, S&OP, or a related finance or operations role; leadership experience preferred.

  • Proven experience designing and running an S&OP or Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process.

  • Hands-on experience with demand forecasting, supply planning and master production scheduling.

  • Strong working knowledge of EOQ, statistical safety stock and ABC inventory analysis.

  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards or similar) and planning or BI tools.

  • APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM or CSCP) and Lean Six Sigma experience preferred.

  • Experience in building products or manufacturing with seasonal demand preferred.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% annually.
