Primary Job Duties

This position is located in Salt Lake City, Utah.

As the Automotive Ground Service Mechanic, you will be a vital part of the operation as you maintain SkyWest ground equipment and support ramp personnel to promote safety and on-time arrivals/departures.

  • Efficiently and thoroughly troubleshoot and repair various equipment, including tugs, belt loaders, pickups, deicing equipment, pushback tugs, bag carts, electric vehicles, etc.
  • Travel to different SkyWest ground-handled cities to repair various equipment
  • Prep and paint equipment
  • Complete ramp checks as needed
  • Help train apprentices when needed
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • One year automotive/ground service equipment-related experience or training

  • This position requires a flexible schedule, including split shifts that may occur during early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays

  • This position requires you to work outside in all weather conditions

  • Possess a valid, unrestricted, state-issued driver's license

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

SkyWest Automotive Ground Service Mechanics are required to maintain a Basic Tool Set as outlined below. Tool allowances are available to assist in obtaining and maintaining this set.

  • Standard sockets: ¼”, 3/8”, and ½” drive with ratchets and extensions must range from ¼” to 1 1/4” deep and shallow
  • Metric sockets: must range from 8mm - 19 mm deep and shallow
  • Standard wrenches: standard ¼” to 1 ¼”
  • Metric wrenches: 8mm -19 mm
  • Allen wrenches: standard and metric
  • Screwdrivers: Phillips, flathead, and Torx
  • Pliers: standard and needle-nose pliers, and channel-locks
  • Impact gun and sockets: pneumatic 1/2” and 3/8”
  • Pry bars (variety of lengths)
  • Automotive meter (fluke) with hertz capability
  • Wire cutters, wire strippers, and wire crimpers
  • Hammer
  • Toolbox and travel case ****

Preferred Skills:

  • ASE Certifications in brakes, steering and suspension, electrical, and diesel engines
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Automotive schooling

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Paid travel as needed, including multiple day-trips and overnights stays (flying and driving)
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • 18 years of age or older
  • This is a full-time position
  • Starting at $23.50-26.50 per hour based on experience
  • $75 Monthly tool allowance.
  • This is a Department of Transportation safety-sensitive position.
