Men's Health and Women's Health are looking for a Senior Shooter/Editor to create and elevate video storytelling across digital, social, and broadcast platforms. This hands-on role combines strong camera and lighting craft with sharp editorial judgment, giving you the opportunity to shape projects from production through final edit while helping define a distinctive visual approach for two leading health and wellness brands.

About Hearst Magazines (Why Us?)

Hearst Magazines is home to 30 leading editorial brands that inspire, inform, and entertain millions of audiences across print, digital, video, social, and emerging platforms. Our teams are driven by creativity, innovation, and collaboration, delivering exceptional content and experiences while shaping the future of media.

Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)

  • Shoot and edit short- and long-form video for Men's Health and Women's Health across digital, social, and broadcast platforms, including studio, field, talent-driven, documentary, branded, and social-first projects.
  • Serve as a lead shooter on a significant portion of productions, making thoughtful decisions around camera, lighting, composition, movement, sound, and coverage.
  • Shape and maintain a strong visual style for both brands, communicating creative direction and references clearly with producers, talent, crews, and editors.
  • Edit stories from rough cut through final delivery, balancing pacing, clarity, polish, sound, shot selection, continuity, and editorial intent while incorporating feedback efficiently.
  • Collaborate with producers and editorial teams from pre-production through delivery to determine the right creative and production approach and anticipate coverage needs.
  • Direct and work confidently with high-profile talent when needed, creating a professional, productive, and collaborative environment on set.
  • Brief and oversee freelance camera and production crews as needed, maintaining high standards for safety, quality, communication, and consistency.
  • Manage media workflows, including ingesting, organizing, tracking, archiving, and handing off footage while troubleshooting common storage and post-production issues.
  • Apply motion design, audio mixing, color correction, and grading as appropriate, coordinating with post-production partners when additional support is needed.
  • Bring fresh visual ideas and production approaches to the brands while staying current with evolving video formats, platforms, and audience expectations.

Qualifications (What We're Looking For)

  • 5+ years of professional video editing and motion design experience, with a portfolio and credits demonstrating strong work across traditional and digital video.
  • Extensive camera and production experience, with strong lighting and camera skills in both studio and location environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro; experience with After Effects and familiarity with Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Strong editorial instincts with a keen eye for sound, pacing, shot selection, continuity, and narrative, including the ability to shoot with the edit in mind.
  • Working knowledge of audio mixing, color correction or grading, media storage, and post-production workflows.
  • Experience working with talent and the confidence to provide creative direction and maintain a professional production environment.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and respond effectively to feedback.
  • Calm, adaptable, and solutions-oriented approach, particularly in fast-paced production environments and on short-turnaround assignments.
  • Willingness to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, and travel as production schedules require.
  • This role is based in New York, NY and requires working from the office four days per week.
