The Role’s Responsibilities

Run a safe, smooth operation

• Lead the daily kayak and SUP rental operation, working alongside the dock team and setting the tone for staff and guests.
• Make the safety calls: read weather and water conditions, decide who goes out and where, and call wind holds or early closures when needed.
• Make sure every guest gets a clear safety briefing, the right gear and a great start to their day.
• Support guides and instructors running trips and classes out of Alameda.
• Keep equipment and the facility in good shape, either hands-on or by delegating, and plan gear needs for upcoming seasons with the CEO.

Grow the location

• Build a yearly plan with the CEO, track results, and adjust as you go.
• Look for new ways to bring people to the water, from new programs and events to ways of turning first-time renters into regulars.
• Sell at the dock, on the phone and over email. Book rentals, classes, trips, group events and memberships.
• Coordinate local marketing and outreach with the Sea Trek office.

Build partnerships and community

• Find and build relationships with local businesses, schools, nonprofits, clubs and the City, working with our Head of Growth & Partnerships.
• Support Sea Trek's community access programs at Alameda, including Sea Trek CARES.
• Be Sea Trek's face in Alameda: host and show up at community events, and represent us well with neighbors, the marina and the City.

Grow and care for members

• Own Alameda membership sales and renewals.
• Create a member experience worth renewing, and stay in touch with members to hear what they want.
• Onboard and support boat and board storage clients.

Lead the team

• Hire, train, schedule and supervise all Alameda dock and desk staff.
• Run regular team meetings and give clear, timely feedback and performance reviews.
• Help staff grow into leaders, and build a culture of safety, service and teamwork.
• As part of the leadership team, bring Alameda's perspective to company-wide planning, and share what's working across locations.

You're energetic, patient and calm under pressure, and you make guests and staff feel safe and at ease. You take initiative, solve problems, and keep things organized. You're curious and open to learning. At Sea Trek everyone keeps growing, the CEO included.

Required

• 2+ years managing or supervising staff, including hiring, training and scheduling
• A track record of growing one or all of the following: revenue, sales, memberships or a customer base
• 2+ years of sea kayaking and/or SUP experience
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, and comfort delegating
• Comfortable working independently and reporting to the CEO
• Comfortable with booking systems, email, spreadsheets and basic reporting

Nice to have

• Experience in business development, partnerships, marketing or membership programs
• Existing connections in Alameda or the East Bay
• ACA instructor certification
• Background in outdoor recreation, hospitality or retail
• Equipment repair and maintenance skills
