About the job
Job Description A growing software company is building tools for the construction industry, helping businesses improve clarity, efficiency, and consistency in how they operate. The early-stage company is led by founders with firsthand industry experience and a strong understanding of the challenges its customers face.
As a Founding Account Executive, you’ll help bring the company’s software to more customers and build the foundation for a scalable sales organization. You’ll own the full sales cycle, from prospecting and discovery through product demonstrations, negotiation, and close. You’ll also work directly with the founders to refine the company’s positioning, messaging, and sales process.
This is a hands-on role for a commercially driven salesperson who enjoys winning new business and building the systems that make sales repeatable. You’ll take ownership of active opportunities and customer relationships, grow the pipeline beyond the founders’ network, and share customer insights with the founders and engineering team. The company does not yet have a finished sales playbook, so you’ll help create one as you work.
This is a full-time, onsite position in New York City, with five days per week in the office.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven track record as a quota-carrying closer selling B2B software to enterprise buyers
- Experience managing long sales cycles with multiple stakeholders
- Experience owning deals end to end, from prospecting through negotiation and close
- Comfort serving as the first salesperson at an early-stage company, working directly with founders and taking accountability for results
- Regular use of AI tools and an ability to learn new products and tools quickly
- Strong CRM habits, with experience using the CRM as the source of truth for pipeline and forecasting
- Ability to work onsite in the New York City office five days a week
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience selling to construction managers, general contractors, developers, or owners, or previous experience in construction
- Familiarity with construction scheduling, CPM, or Primavera P6
- Experience as an early or founding Account Executive at a startup that went on to hire its first sales team
What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities
- Own the sales cycle with enterprise construction managers, general contractors, and developers, from initial outreach through signed license
- Take over active opportunities and existing customer relationships, then build pipeline beyond the founders’ network
- Maintain accurate CRM records for accounts, contacts, deals, calls, and next steps; oversee pipeline processes until a revenue operations function is established
- Lead discovery calls and product demonstrations, explaining CPM scheduling, the P6 integration, and the product’s value to project executives and scheduling teams
- Develop opportunities through relationships with a consulting partner
- Share customer feedback with the founders and engineering team to inform the product roadmap
- Document effective practices for targeting, discovery, objection handling, and pricing to help future sales hires ramp quickly
- Help interview and onboard future sales team members
First 90 Days First 30 days — Learn and take over
- Learn the product well enough to lead a full demo independently, including CPM, Gantt views, and the P6 integration
- Join the CEO’s active deals and customer calls, and spend time with partner schedulers to understand how customers use the product
- Learn the go-to-market strategy and take ownership of the CRM pipeline
- Build a target account list and account plans with the CEO
- Lead initial discovery calls and demos, with the CEO joining as needed
By 60 days — Own the pipeline
- Take day-to-day ownership of active opportunities from the CEO
- Build new pipeline through partner relationships, referrals, and outbound prospecting
- Run a weekly pipeline and forecast review with the CEO using the CRM
- Refine the pitch, demo flow, and objection handling based on customer conversations
- Provide regular summaries of customer feedback to the product team
By 90 days — Prove it repeats
- Advance inherited opportunities toward signature and close your first deals as lead seller
- Build qualified pipeline to support quota for the next two quarters
- Document the sales playbook, including the ideal customer profile, qualification, demos, pricing, and procurement steps
- Agree with the CEO on quota and a compensation plan for the rest of the year
- Help shape the profile and interview process for future sales hires
The Offer
- Base salary of $165,000–$195,000, plus commission
- On-target earnings of approximately $360,000, with accelerators above quota
- Opportunity to work directly with experienced founders who understand the construction industry
- Foundational ownership of customers, revenue, and go-to-market strategy
- Opportunity to help build the company’s sales organization and modernize how construction businesses operate
- Meaningful room to grow as an early team member
