Requisition Summary

This Powertrain Engine Inspection Technician requires strong, hands-on, technical abilities with a proficient understanding of heavy-duty diesel engine theory of operation.  Candidates must conceptualize principals related to obscure engine failures. A keen eye for details with drive to perform detailed investigations while maintaining detailed documentation of observations. In this role you will work closely with internal and external experts within their field along with outside their field in a collaborative effort to determine root cause of engine and/or component failure.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Perform complete engine, component teardowns and detailed inspections.

  • Use data and observations to formulate a hypothesis of the root cause of engine/component failure.

  • Perform metrological studies with precision tools.

  • Document observations using detailed photography and Microsoft PowerPoint.

  • Coordinate returning parts to suppliers and/or other outside recipients.

  • Track and organize incoming engines and components.

  • Communicate results with internal and external staff.

  • Speak publicly regarding engine related topics.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of heavy-duty diesel or automotive technician experience.

  • Work well with others in a collaborative work environment.

  • Strong understanding of metrology tools and principals.

  • Strong understanding of diesel engine operation.

  • Excellent trouble-shooting and diagnostic skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office

  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

  • Lift and carry 40 pounds; push and pull 125 pounds.

  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs throughout the day.

  • Tolerate bending, stooping, and kneeling.  Ability to perform frequent work at or above shoulder level.

  • Safely work with industrial solvents, degreasing agents, greases, oils, fuels, paints, and solder wearing appropriate safety equipment.

  • Able to work in confined spaces.

  • Ability to operate forklift and overhead crane.

Education

  • Associates degree in diesel or automotive Technology.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
