Network Security Engineer Specialty: Network Security / Firewall Security & Compliance

Remote/Hybrid/Onsite: Remote

Location: United States — EST/CST candidates preferred

Our client is a large enterprise organization. They are looking to hire a Network Security Engineer on a contract basis. This position is fully remote within the United States and will support Eastern Time business hours while collaborating with both U.S.-based and offshore teams.

This is an excellent opportunity for a security professional who enjoys digging into firewall configurations and figuring out why something represents a risk—not simply administering devices. You'll investigate firewall rules and security configurations, identify compliance gaps and vulnerabilities, and partner with multiple technical teams to drive remediation. The role offers exposure to enterprise-scale network security, security automation, compliance, and risk management while remaining fully remote.

Contract Duration Approximately 6 months. The project is currently budgeted through the end of the year, with potential extension into Q1; extension is not guaranteed. There is no stated FTE conversion path.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of Network Security experience
• Hands-on firewall security experience
• Firewall rule and configuration analysis
• Network security configuration and hardening
• VPN and firewall security management
• Configuration compliance and control reviews
• Configuration drift identification and remediation
• Vulnerability management
• Security monitoring and threat analysis
• Security risk investigation and remediation
• Security audit support
• Governance, Risk and Compliance exposure
• Ability to coordinate remediation across multiple technical teams
• English fluency
• Ability to work EST hours and collaborate with offshore teams

Desired Skills & Experience

• Security automation experience
• AI-assisted or AI-driven security review experience
• Firewall policy-management or analysis platforms such as Tufin, AlgoSec, FireMon or Skybox
• Experience with Palo Alto, Check Point, Fortinet/FortiGate, Cisco or similar enterprise firewall platforms
• Financial-services or banking security experience
• Previous Santander experience
• Spanish/English bilingual

Daily Responsibilities

• Review firewall rules and network-security configurations
• Investigate security risks and configuration issues
• Identify noncompliant, unnecessary or potentially risky firewall rules
• Perform configuration compliance and control reviews
• Identify and investigate configuration drift
• Work with infrastructure and security teams to remediate findings
• Track identified risks through remediation and closure
• Support vulnerability-management activities
• Assist with security audits and compliance initiatives
• Analyze security events and potential threats
• Help improve and automate security-review processes
• Document findings, recommendations and remediation activities
• Collaborate with U.S. and offshore technology teams
