About the job

Senior Engineer, Cybersecurity Engineering / Onsite - Carrollton, TX /

Contract to hire

Our client is a global leader in radiation safety, measurement, and critical infrastructure command-and-control solutions, that's based out of Carrollton, TX.

If you are an engineer who thrives at the intersection of cybersecurity, systems engineering, and mission-critical physical infrastructure, this role offers true cradle-to-grave project ownership. Rather than sitting in a passive security operations center monitoring dashboard alerts, you will architect, build, harden, and personally commission secure command-and-control (C2) platforms that protect commercial nuclear power facilities and national critical infrastructure against sophisticated real-world threats. You will own the full systems lifecycle using disciplined V-Model engineering, from translating customer cyber requirements and locking down 20–30 node Active Directory clusters to conducting live Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) on location. This is an exceptional growth opportunity for a hands-on builder seeking high-visibility engineering impact in an essential, highly resilient industry.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience in cybersecurity systems engineering with end-to-end project ownership.
  • Proven track record building, configuring, and hardening environments of 20–30 Windows servers and workstations within an Active Directory domain utilizing Group Policy (GPO) and CIS Benchmarks.
  • Direct experience deploying and configuring virtualized server clusters, storage architectures, Linux-based appliances, network switches, and firewalls.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with formal systems engineering frameworks (Standard V-Model) and managing requirements via Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTM).
  • Hands-on experience developing and executing cybersecurity verification procedures, vulnerability assessments, security scanning, and finding dispositions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% for physical installation, commissioning, and client turnover at customer sites.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status required, with the ability to obtain unescorted site access credentials at commercial nuclear power plants and government facilities.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Prior experience delivering systems in commercial nuclear power, defense, or NRC/DOE/DOD-regulated environments, including familiarity with NRC 10 CFR 73.54 and NEI 08-09 compliance frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of industrial and critical infrastructure cybersecurity standards such as NIST SP 800-82, NIST SP 800-53, or IEC 62443.
  • Background integrating physical security subsystems (access control, surveillance, monitoring) with command-and-control software.
  • Professional certifications such as GICSP, CISSP, CASP+, or CompTIA Security+.
  • Polished customer-facing technical communication skills with experience running formal Factory or Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT).

What You Will Be Doing

Tech Breakdown

  • Directory Services & OS: Windows Server & Workstations, Active Directory Domain Services, Group Policy (GPOs), Linux-based appliances.
  • Infrastructure & Networking: Virtualized server clusters, SAN/NAS storage, managed L2/L3 switches, next-gen firewalls, network segmentation.
  • Frameworks & Benchmarks: CIS Benchmarks, NEI 08-09, NRC 10 CFR 73.54, NIST SP 800-82, IEC 62443.
  • Engineering & Delivery: Standard V-Model, Requirements Traceability Matrices (RTM), Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

Daily Responsibilities

  • Translate customer cybersecurity specifications into fully traceable system- and component-level engineering designs using the V-Model.
  • Architect and stand up platform environments composed of 20–30 Windows servers, workstations, virtualized clusters, switches, and firewalls.
  • Implement rigorous Group Policy-based security controls, access controls, network segmentation, and system hardening aligned with CIS Benchmarks and NEI 08-09.
  • Execute COTS and proprietary command-and-control software integrations, applying patch management and vulnerability remediation.
  • Author and maintain formal engineering deliverables, including virtual/network design plans, architecture diagrams, and control mapping matrices.
  • Conduct security verification, vulnerability scanning, and pre-deployment testing against acceptance criteria.
  • Travel up to 25% to customer facilities to lead physical installation, network commissioning, Active Directory integration, and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Deliver technical turnover packages, train facility personnel on system operations and cyber maintenance, and mentor junior engineering team members.

Benefits

  • Medical Insurance - Four medical plans to choose from for you and your family
