Job Description

At WGU, data plays a critical role in advancing student success and driving informed decision-making across the university. As a Senior Data Analyst, you will serve as a trusted analytics partner, translating complex data into actionable insights that influence strategy, improve operations, and support university-wide initiatives. This role is ideal for an experienced analytics professional who enjoys solving business problems, building scalable reporting solutions, and helping stakeholders make confident, data-driven decisions.

What You'll Do

  • Partner with business leaders, faculty, and cross-functional teams to understand business needs, translate user stories into technical requirements, and deliver analytics solutions that drive action.
  • Answer complex business questions by leveraging data from multiple domains and identifying the most appropriate data sources to support analysis, forecasting, research, and experimentation.
  • Design, develop, maintain, and optimize dashboards, reports, and business intelligence solutions that provide meaningful insights to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering teams to support the development of data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and scalable analytics solutions.
  • Analyze and investigate complex data issues, improving the accuracy, consistency, completeness, and reliability of university data assets.
  • Communicate findings through compelling data storytelling, visualizations, presentations, and recommendations that influence decision-making.
  • Contribute to data governance, documentation, data modeling, and the continuous improvement of analytics tools, standards, and best practices.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
  • 5 years of related experience in Data Analysis, Business Intelligence, Data Science, Statistics, Decision Intelligence, Research, Learning Science, or Behavioral/Cognitive Psychology.
  • Advanced SQL proficiency, including experience with complex queries, subqueries, joins, aggregations, common table expressions (CTEs), window functions, performance tuning, views, and data modification statements.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, with the ability to automate, transform, analyze, and manage data workflows.
  • Strong experience building, managing, and maintaining business intelligence solutions, dashboards, and reporting environments.
  • Experience translating analytical findings into business recommendations and guiding stakeholders through strategic decisions and improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive projects forward with a high degree of ownership and accountability.

Experience in lieu of education: An equivalent combination of training, experience, credentials, or accomplishments demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with Tableau and/or Power BI.
  • Experience managing a large portfolio of operational reports, dashboards, and reporting assets.
  • Experience partnering with stakeholders across multiple business functions and strategic initiatives.
