SUMMARY
Work and experience multiple aspects of construction management as well as other lines of business. Heavy construction interns in construction management will spend the bulk of their time focusing on construction activities. Interns accepted into our paid internship program will receive a wealth of knowledge and rewarding learning experiences that will enhance their education and future career goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management
-
Learn how to find, bid, and build heavy construction projects.

Work with current bidding software
-
Aid in setting up contracts and subcontracts.

Work with estimators, project managers, and construction crew foreman.
Asphalt Plant Operations
-
Spend time working with plant operators running asphalt plants.
-
Work with yard crew and loader operator
-
Learn how to run scales.
-
Assist with general maintenance of the plant.
Hot Mix Asphalt Lab
-
Assist in mix design process.
-
Assist in testing hot mix asphalt.
Construction Crews
-
Work on a Hot Mix Asphalt construction crew and/or prep crew
-
Spend time with foreman learning how to prepare for the job and set up job.

Learn about construction equipment – various uses and skills required.

Work with Equipment and in shops
Business Management
-
Work with Operations Manager/accounting on monthly projections
-
Understand job cost.

Review workload
-
Understand the basics of P&L
Aggregate Manufacturing and Sales
-
Spend time working in an aggregate location.
-
Learn about various materials available in quarries and pits.
-
Understand basic operation and logistics.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Enrolled in a four-year degree program in Construction Management or Operations Management with one or more years of college completed. Must have computer skills either through experience or classes.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
