Rooted in a bilingual education approach, we ensure full access to American Sign Language and English across comprehensive academic, extracurricular, and student life programs. In partnership with families and communities, we empower students to think critically and develop a sense of self and belonging.\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

To develop and implement a bilingual educational program for Deaf students in a language accessible environment as well as provide an enriched bicultural environment conducive to the development of the optimal social and emotional growth of Deaf students. To provide a language enriched environment through use of sign language and printed word to meet the varied needs of Deaf students.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Assess and teach Deaf students including the\r\nimplementation of Maryland’s state standards and the development of IEPs.\r\nCreate and maintain a classroom conducive to learning.� Prepare and\r\nmaintain weekly solid lesson plans based on student assessments and data, and\r\nteach lessons using the best practices of bilingual pedagogy and differentiated\r\ninstruction.� Design and make materials to facilitate student\r\nlearning.� Collect data and follow individualized planning.� Develop\r\nIEPs and write quarterly progress reports; apply IEP accommodations and\r\nsupplementary aids in teaching and assessments. Maintain a grade book,\r\nportfolios, unit plans, daily attendance, and emergency classroom lesson plans.\r\nUtilize effective classroom management for optimal learning including managing\r\nstudent behavior; model appropriate behavior and promote self-control.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree required.\r\n�\r\nCandidates must be eligible\r\nto apply for or be willing to obtain certification by the Maryland State\r\nDepartment of Education within a prescribed amount of time. Fluency in American\r\nSign Language and written English required.� Knowledge of the Deaf culture,\r\nDeaf Education, students with additional disabilities and ability to teach\r\nstudents on different levels and with varying educational and language\r\nacquisition backgrounds is required.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in Education or Special Education of Deaf students,\r\nMaryland State Department of Education Certification\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
