Adjunct Faculty – Nursing

College of Health and Natural Sciences University of Tulsa

Position Summary

The Adjunct Faculty member in Nursing is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and fostering student learning within the College of Health and Natural Sciences. Adjunct faculty teach assigned courses, evaluate student performance, maintain academic standards, and support the mission of the University and Nursing Program through excellence in teaching and student engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate nursing courses in classroom, laboratory, simulation, online, and/or clinical settings as assigned.
  • Prepare and deliver course materials in accordance with approved curriculum and learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student performance through examinations, assignments, projects, clinical evaluations, and other assessment methods.
  • Provide timely feedback and academic support to students.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance, grades, and course records in accordance with university policies.
  • Utilize instructional technologies and learning management systems to support teaching and learning.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies, nursing program standards, accreditation requirements, and applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • Participate in program meetings, orientation activities, and faculty development opportunities as requested.
  • Support a learning environment that promotes professionalism, diversity, inclusion, and student success.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Nursing or a related healthcare field.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education.
  • Experience with online instruction, simulation-based education, or clinical supervision.
  • Specialty certification in a nursing practice area.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current nursing practice standards and evidence-based care.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively teach and mentor diverse student populations.
  • Proficiency with instructional technologies and learning management systems.
  • Commitment to academic excellence and student success.

Working Conditions

  • Work may be performed in classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and office environments.
  • Evening, weekend, or off-site instructional assignments may be required based on course scheduling and program needs.

This position is appointed on a semester-by-semester basis according to program needs and enrollment demands.
