About the job

Chubb has made community-scale climate resilience a strategic priority, with executive support and the resources needed to operate on a national scale. We are seeking talented professionals to advance the Community Resilience Initiative, helping communities reduce natural catastrophe risk and strengthen their resilience under a changing climate.

Through this ongoing recruitment, Chubb expects to fill multiple AVP positions with complementary expertise across natural hazards, resilient design, engineering, planning, and data analytics.

The AVP, Community Resilience will combine technical expertise with strong project management skills to turn risk information into practical action. This individual will help identify community needs, evaluate mitigation opportunities, and manage projects that connect physical risk reduction with insurance outcomes.

Candidates may bring a background in:

  • Building and community design – architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, or planning, with demonstrated expertise in one or more perils: wildfire, coastal or inland flooding, wind, or severe storms.
  • Data and analytics – experience leading the development of digital products built on a modern data and analytics platform, with demonstrated experience applying those skills to community resilience and natural catastrophe risk.

Reporting to the Vice President, Community Resilience, this role will collaborate with colleagues across risk consulting, underwriting, catastrophe modeling, claims, and analytics, as well as external technical specialists and community partners. Individual portfolios will reflect each hire’s expertise and the needs of the initiative.

Why These Roles Matters

Communities need more than information about their climate risk. They need clear, technically credible guidance about which interventions will reduce losses.

These roles offer the opportunity to apply data, engineering, and risk analysis expertise within a well-resourced, executive-backed initiative at one of the world’s leading insurers. If you are a detail-oriented, relationship-driven problem solver who enjoys turning complex challenges into practical community outcomes, this is an opportunity to help advance community resilience at-scale.

Responsibilities

Manage community resilience projects

  • Lead assigned projects from initial scoping and partner engagement through assessment, resilience planning, implementation support, and outcome evaluation.
  • Develop and manage work plans, schedules, budgets, consultant scopes, deliverables, and project dependencies.
  • Establish clear responsibilities across internal teams and external partners, maintain momentum, and resolve issues that could affect delivery.
  • Translate technical findings into specific actions, responsible parties, implementation milestones, and measures of success.
  • Provide clear updates to leadership and partners, identifying decisions needed, emerging challenges, and recommended next steps.

Apply technical expertise to risk reduction

  • Assess how natural hazards, building and site conditions, land use, infrastructure, and surrounding landscapes contribute to community risk.
  • Bring subject matter expertise to assigned projects, drawing on specialists where additional disciplines or peril expertise are needed.
  • Evaluate property, neighborhood, and community-scale mitigation opportunities based on expected effectiveness, feasibility, cost, maintenance, and implementation requirements.
  • Look beyond minimum code compliance and current conditions to consider long-term resilience, future climate conditions, and the useful life of proposed investments.
  • Help communities prioritize actions within their control and identify measures requiring coordination with neighbors, HOAs, utilities, public agencies, or other partners.

Contribute through a technical specialty

Depending on the position and the candidate’s background, responsibilities may emphasize:

  • Design, engineering, and planning: Conduct field assessments; review plans and technical studies; develop resilience concepts and implementation guidance; and evaluate how buildings, sites, landscapes, and infrastructure can be adapted to reduce risk.
  • Data and analytics: Integrate hazard, exposure, vulnerability, geospatial, and other relevant data; work with modelers to evaluate resilience scenarios; and develop analyses, maps, and decision tools that inform community priorities and investment.

Across both areas, apply sound judgment, explain uncertainty, and connect technical work to practical decisions.

Connect resilience measures with insurance outcomes

  • Work with engineering, catastrophe modeling, and underwriting colleagues to assess how proposed interventions may affect physical damage, expected losses, and the insurability of properties and communities.
  • Help assemble the technical evidence and documentation needed to evaluate and recognize completed risk reduction measures.
  • Support the development of metrics that track implementation, performance, and potential changes in insurance availability, capacity, or affordability.
  • Communicate findings accurately, distinguishing demonstrated outcomes from anticipated benefits that require further analysis or verification.

Build partnerships and repeatable approaches

  • Develop productive relationships with community associations, local governments, property owners, developers, utilities, technical consultants, and other implementation partners.
  • Facilitate working sessions that turn different perspectives and priorities into shared decisions and actionable plans.
  • Prepare clear reports, presentations, maps, and other materials for technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Capture lessons from projects and contribute to assessment methods, technical guidance, and delivery approaches that can be applied across additional communities.
  • Evaluate relevant tools and emerging solutions and help identify opportunities for practical pilots.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, urban or regional planning, geography, GIS, data science, environmental science, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in community resilience, natural hazard mitigation, resilient design, engineering, planning, climate risk analytics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise through at least one of the following pathways:
  • Design, engineering, or planning: Experience applying architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, or planning skills to reduce risk from one or more natural hazards.
  • Data and analytics: Experience applying quantitative, geospatial, or catastrophe risk analysis to community resilience, with a strong understanding of how analytical findings inform physical mitigation and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of wildfire, coastal or inland flooding, wind, or severe storms and their effects on buildings, infrastructure, landscapes, and communities.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including responsibility for scopes, schedules, multidisciplinary teams, and delivery of substantive project outcomes.
  • Experience working with community partners or other external stakeholders in projects involving multiple organizations and competing priorities.
  • Ability to evaluate technical information and translate it into clear, feasible recommendations.
  • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills, including the ability to explain risk and uncertainty to nontechnical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently, propose solutions when the path is unclear, and adapt to changing information and requirements.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits, project delivery, and partner engagement.
  • Collaborative mindset with a willingness to learn, take direction, and contribute to team success.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional licensure or certification relevant to the candidate’s discipline, such as RA, PLA, PE, AICP, GISP, CFM, or PMP.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience moving resilience recommendations into implementation.
  • Familiarity with property insurance, catastrophe modeling, loss prevention, or the relationship between risk mitigation and underwriting.

The pay range for the role is $133,350 to $192,150. The specific offer will depend on an applicant’s skills and other factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program. Chubb offers a comprehensive benefits package, more details on which can be found on our careers website.
