About the job

With a high degree of autonomy, this position performs complex copy cataloging for USF Libraries across a variety of formats, both print and electronic, consistent with internal policies and procedures and in strict accordance with established national and international cataloging standards. This includes bibliographic description and subject analysis. This position also maintains bibliographic records in the database, including troubleshooting problems, updating holdings, enhancing metadata, and working with large spreadsheet-based datasets to complete data analysis and perform global database changes. Electronic cataloging includes batch loading bibliographic records and managing electronic resources in the library catalog. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and technical proficiency in a variety of systems, software, and other technological applications, including the Alma Integrated Library Platform.

Salary:

$50,000 - $55,000

Responsibilities

  • 40% - Maintain cataloging of all physical formats across campuses and departments for USF Libraries to ensure timely access and discovery of library resources. This includes the use of OCLC Connexion to retrieve record, enhancing bib records, creating items and holdings, verifying subject headings, call numbers and name authorities and tracking statistics.  This also entails performing complex copy cataloging tasks involving deriving new records, and performing subject analysis for subject heading and call number creation.
  • 40% - Perform database maintenance and clean up projects to ensure the accuracy of the library catalog thereby enhancing the discoverable of library resources. This involves individual record maintenance, performing data analyst on large data sets, troubleshooting issues in the data sets and performing data clean up in the library database, including batch updates and performing global changes on the database. This position would also perform data transformation and formatting projects.
  • 15% - Assist with cataloging and maintaining the cataloging work-flow for all electronic formats to ensure timely access and discovery of library resources. This includes copy cataloging of electronic resources, tracking new e-resource purchases, verifying URL links of e-resources and recording e-resource cataloging statistics. This position will also assist with batch loading and activating of electronic portfolio titles into Alma platform.
  • 5% - Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field with two years of work experience in a library. Appropriate college coursework may substitute for the required experience.

  • Senate Bill 1310- The Florida Senate (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2023/1310) is conditional upon meeting all employment eligibility requirements in the U.S.

  • SB 1310: Substitution of Work Experience for Postsecondary Education Requirements

  • A public employer may include a postsecondary degree as a baseline requirement only as an alternative to the number of years of direct experience required, not to exceed:

  • (a) Two years of direct experience for an associate degree;

  • (b) Four years of direct experience for a bachelor’s degree;

  • (c) Six years of direct experience for a master’s degree;

  • (d) Seven years of direct experience for a professional degree; or

  • (e) Nine years of direct experience for a doctoral degree

  • Related work experience may not substitute for any required licensure, certification, or registration required for the position of employment as established by the public employer and indicated in the advertised description of the position of employment.

  • Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Library Science or other related fields. These degrees would provide the foundation needed in technology and data management to be able to perform the duties of this position. Two years cataloging experience in an academic library setting.
